I thought about posting this on the Salome forum, but I wasn't sure if you still go there. I hope no one minds that I am posting here.
I wanted to let you know that Alguna Vez Tendremos Alas is in "Ultimas Semanas". I believe there are four weeks or twenty episodes left - the final episode should be on January tenth.
I have loved every moment of this novela, and I hope you enjoy seeing the end again.

I remember seeing a picture of her taken at KdC's wedding and thought she looked kinda skinny and reading that when she acted in LM she was a bit on the fat side... but i could not imagine it was that bad.

I enjoyed reading about the truth behind the scenes. I always thought it was disappointing that Guy and Margarita had such a distant relationship. You could have fooled me. LThey were such a loving couple.
Which "modelito" is the same in Cafe and BLF? Did Sebastian's sister wear the same dress as one of the Cuartel de las feas?? I could not see all the photos.
The music in Cafe was one of the best things about this novela. It made it so unique.

Now why would they be wearing the same suit.? There is about six years difference between the two novelas. And Paula and Sofia do not even seem to wear the same size. No wonder Hugo Lombardi called them el Cuartel de las feas, because they really did not know how to dress fashionably.

yes, i live in canada, but believe it or not, i can tune into all the local new york stations on my satellite tv...sometimes the scripts change and the local stations will come out of detroit or boston, and out west (in b.c.) they come out of seattle...
i'm not sure why the telefutura staion still doesn't come in though, b/c the guide says it IS "telefutura" and the actual stations have the shows listed on each channel...right on the actual tv screen it says "betty ;a fea" at 5 pm, but then another show always appears....wierd!!!!!...

I grew up in Chicago but after I got married I moved to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. You know it is about 1/2 hour off the northwest coast, where there was the HUGE oil spill from the tanker "Prestige".This will give you an idea.
We have just celebrated Thanksgiving today with my American friends.

Tiene muy buen cargo, el que usted tenía, con un gran salario, el que usted recibía, y manejando un gran poder, el que usted ostentaba..... y déjeme decirle que desde la.... metamorfooosis, de pronto esos másteres, esa inteligencia, esa brillantez, afloraron, no sé como. Es que viéndola detalladamente uno se puede explicar porque estaba usted tan enganchado (atención que Armando se está levantando de su silla, con cara de malas pulgas), la verdad, por ejemplo: cara.... la cara es simpática, es un poquito sexy, es exótica, yo no sé tiene algo; la voz, ni mencionarla; el cuerpo está muuuuy bien, ese pantalón que se puso el día del lanzamiento fue muy lindo y......(la paciencia de Armando se agotó y agarra por el pescuezo a su amigo)
A.- No más, no más Calderón.... ¡usted respeta a Beatriz!
C.- ¡Pero calma, calma!
A.- ¡Usted jamássss, se va a volver a referir a Beatriz en ese tono! ¿lo entendió Calderón? (Calderón hace esfuerzos denodados por decirle que sí, que lo entendió perfectamente) ¿LO ENTENDIÓ? (por fín lo libera de su garra).
C.- Ay, usted qué... especulador del mercado ¿no? Las quiere a todas pero no hace nada con nadie ¿ah?

A.- Calderón, yo no he dicho que he renunciado a dejar en paz a Beatriz, yo no he dicho eso. Pero por supuesto que yo quiero volver con ella, pero no en los términos que usted lo plantea. is there a site where these are posted and i could find them myself??..that would save you alot of trouble, and i could pass the site along to some others (like camelia and deb) who would also enjoy the dailogues too...
marta also posted all the "corazon salvaje" dialogues some time ago, and i have those all printed off and itemized/separated into episodes, and put into 2 HUGE binders...(lol...they're almost too heavy to lift!!!) ...again, i often watch scenes from cs and refer to them...
it's such an enjoyable way to learn the language...i had no idea watching novelas would ever be so much fun, and a great learning tool at the same time!!!...

It will give you great dialogues of the best scenes. It is both in English and Spanish. But it is worth seeing it in the original dialogue so you can compare to your tape.
The dialogue I sent you was from a forum. There aren't too many of those dialogues. It was courtesy of some of the participants. I have to go search for the address. I'll give it to you next time.

And I'm not watching "Salome". It isn't shown here and I'm not sure if it ever will... I would be glad to see Guy in anything, but I heard that "salome" wasn't that good... so if I'll get the chance to see it I'll be pleased, and if not - I still can live with that...
Right now I'm seeing 3 novelas - Terra Nostra, La madre and La viuda de Blanco - and sometimes I discuss it in an Israeli forum. Terra is very successful here - we can even buy here the soundtrack.
Anyway Marleine, I hope that we have another chance to discuss some good novelas soon. Unfortunately it's comlicated becuase we usually can't see the same novelas in the same time..

I think we're close to the end (We're just saw episode no. 123). Francesco just closed the bank and the general economic situation is difficult. Mateo can't find a job and thinks about becoming an anarchist. Marco Antonio is on a trip to Manaous (sp??). Madame Jannet is stil living happily with Josue. Amadeo is waiting for his trial and Hortensia is still pregnant (it's the longest pregnancy in this novela, isn't it?). I'm looking forward to the next episodes...

It's very beautiful. But it did not enthuse me like other novelas like Cafe. It is like watching a fictional documentary. I found the main characters difficult to get into. And I prefered the minor ones better than the leading couple.

yes, we saw terranostra here in canada about 2-3 years' ago...it was in portugese though, so i didn't get too much of the dialogue...the foro was alot of fun (camelia can attest to that...lol!!), and i really enjoyed the novela too...beautiful scenery, lovely storylines, and very good actors...
will anyone be watching "terra esperanza" (coming soon on telemundo)???..

It has been confirmed that Margarita Rosa (Gaviota) & the singer Carlos Vives ( who was her ex-husband in real life and had done before a novela together which made her famous and was a very sucessful novela (but I didn't see it) are doing a new novela together.
Would you like to see Gaviota in another novela?????? I do but I don't know if I'll be comparing her to Gaviota with Sebastian or not.

I actually see now another novela with Margarita - La madre - and Margarita is doing a wonderful job. She's playing the role of a mother who has 5 children. It's so different from the role of Gaviota, but Margarita is great actress and I'm enjoying this novela very much (although it's not "Cafe").
Anyway, I'll be happy to see Margarita in any role, and if it's true that Fernando Gaitan would write this new novela - it should be good!

Ivan prohibits Carolina from entering the hacienda and insists in undermining the CasaBlanca coffee when they are meeting with the potential buyers attending the conference/tour. Salinas disagrees and says neither he nor the guests would go to the hacienda if Gaviota is not going. Ivan insists even though Carolina says she does not need his approval and she already has permission. Salinas says in case she cannot go, the visit to the hacienda would be cancelled or Ivan would have to leave the group. Ivan leaves mad. Gaviota is mad and ready to follow Ivan to kill him but Salinas stops her....
Sal: ... Usted para donde va??
Gav: Yo voy a matar a ese Señor! Es que se lo juro por Dios!!
Sal: (laughs) Usted no va a matar a nadie! Ademas, imaginese el desprestigio para la Asociacion! Que salimos con siete invitados y regresamos con seis!! (LOL!) Porque la Asistente del Departamento de Relaciones Publicas decidio liquidar a uno en el camino!...
(Sebastian is staying up to call Gaviota at midnight. But when Gaviota and Salinas are heading to their rooms, she hears noises. SHe gets scared. MEanwhile Salinas is in his room mad at himself for not having found a way to stay with her another 25 minutes until midnight so he could be the first to congratulate her on her birthday... Salinas decides to go back to Gaviota's room to congratulate her, but can't find the courage to knock on the door... He gets back in his room, next door to Gaviota, shuts the door hard. Gaviota hears the noise and gets scared again, she comes out and asks guard if he saw anyone around there, he says no. Salinas comes out and asks her what is going on. She asks him if they can switch rooms.
Later on Sebastian calls Gaviota's room number as they are switching rooms and Salinas answers the phone. Gav is around, and she grabs the phone a little too late. Seb is already irate on the other end...
G: Sebastian!...
S: Como que no esta ahi??!! (??)
G: Ay, vea! Usted no vaya a pensar que yo... (already previewing what is coming on phone...)
S: No, no no!! Como voy a pensar algo malo?? Son las 12 de la noche y EL esta en tu habitacion!! Como podria malinterpretar las cosas??!! (very mad)
G: Ay no, Sebastian! Dejeme que yo le explique solo un momentico!!

part of the novela. The first time I saw it I loved it but it is also a very nervewrecking part because Sebastian is sooo jealous and suffering so much. And Gaviota's behavior was a bit inconsiderate on an unconscious level ( if there is such a thing). Well let's say I wasn't too happy with the way she handled the situation. Thanks for the dialogue. It brings sweet memories.

I did not like her way of thanking poor Sebastian when he brought her mother to the hotel. I mean it was a great GIFT. At this point both Gaviota and her mother are really taking their good luck for granted. And Gaviota dancing away with everybody while Seb was left steaming. I can see her acting that way in Bogota but not in Seb's territory. And then she sings a song for
Dr. Salinas. Give me a break! If that isn't enough she is rude to Seb after the poor guy brings her a serenata and yells at him to LEAVER HER ALONE. No wonder Seb was soo depressed. Granted, he overeacted but she has to understand that she means so much to him. And she at least has Mario Salinas after her.

there are decent summaries in there, probably enough to help you follow the storyline... only one thing out of order... the reading of the secret envelope from Octavio's will happens actually earlier than the summary says... other than that the summaries are accurate.

no i never did figure it out!!!...
everynight at 5pm, i see "betty la fea" right on that same station (local channels from new york, #66 and/or #68), and then something else comes on, even though the heading at the top of the screen still says "betty la fea"...i have blf all on tape anyway, but i can never seem to follow where we're at on the foro in relation to the tapes!!...
actually, i've been doing a course at work and last week i had 2 exams to write, so i'm quite behind...
i'll be sooo happy when this is all done (2 more weeks of classes and 3 more exams), then i can RELAX, watch novelas to my hearts' content, and finally be resettled (i've also just moved recently, and also my mom's condo will be sold and all settled by the end of this month...it's been a bit of a hassle going back and forth to deal with bills, moving, cleaning, lawyers, estate accounts, etc.!!)...
"too many great novelas/too little time"...but it will be better very soon...

I have a friend who would like to tape it for me but he cannot find it. When I watched BLF for the first time, they were also showing "Cuando Seas Mia", a remake of Cafe. Since I love Cafe I taped the latter instead! By the time I realized that BLF was worth preserving half the novela had gone by. What a dummy I was! Anyway, my friend lives in Chicago and he is worse off than you because he cannot even locate the channel.
But you are right. It is more difficult to follow if you do not see the chapter they are showing.!But at least you have it on tape and can consider yourself

yes, the inca trail was just beautiful, but i was very ill with altitude sickness...which really made me sooooo mad....almost crazy!!!!...
i had planned this whole trip (in 1999) for several months and had even been working with a personal trainer at the gym to "get in the best shape possible" for the hike up (it usu. takes about 4-5 days)....
i even acclimatized for 10 days before the hike (which is more than enough time!!), but i still couldn't do it...there's just no oxygen up there!!!!....
we ended up, taking the train up to "km 104", which is a landmark for hikers, about 1 days' hike from the summit of macchu picchu, and that was quite the experience in itself!!!...that local train is sooo overcrowded and dangerous, but the scenery and villages and cultures were amazing to see...we also were able to spend 2 extra days in the AWESOME city of cuzco, so i shouldn't really complain!!!...
there was a girl in the group that actually died of cerebral edema (brain swelling) before i joined the tour group in bolivia (they had been travelling together for 5 weeks through central america)....altitude sickness can really be quite serious, so i didn't push it when i knew i could barely walk down the street or up small hills in bolivia and around cuzco!!!...
if you ever go there, you will just love it too...it's a wonderful experience!!

Ep 101:
Sebastian and Salinas are talking to the visitors at the cocktail, Gaviota arrives and is serving as host for the cocktail and the tours. Sebastian instinctively translates what she is saying, then says stuff on his own on both languages. Salinas mentions that they are going to Santa Marta. This seems to take Sebastian totally by surprise, but he tries his best to control himself and suggests that they enjoy the view of the sundown from there when they go. Carmenza arrives at the cocktail. Gaviota introduces her to Dr. Avellaneda, who seems surprised at her presence but does not make a big deal nor seems upset about it. Avellaneda is very cordial to Carmenza and moves on to attend to the visitors. Salinas has a MAJOR accent when speaking english, unlike Sebastian who seems just as ease with it as with spanish. Ivan arrives. He 'fakes' remembering Carolina in front of Sebastian, Gaviota, Salinas and some of the visitors. Gaviota and Ivan have a small confrontation that is quickly interrupted by Sebastian cutting Ivan off. Ivan works on Sebastians temper by saying 'you wish you were me with Gaviota at Santa Marta, don't you?'
(Meanwhile at Seb/Lucia's apt, the ladies have had wayyy too many drinks, are very silly and sarcastic about the whole situation tonight)
Luc: ... yo me atrevo a asegurar sin miedo a equivocarme que para Sebastian... es mas sensual una mata de cafe con roya que yo!
Angela: Listo! Lucia se puede disfrazar de Gaviota!
(back at the cocktail, both Salinas and Sebastian greet Carmenza and are trying to gain points with her... The first to talk to her was Salinas, and he suggested a coffee with some alcohol in it for her and ordered it for her at the bar... Salinas goes away... a while later in comes Sebastian to talk to her. Sebastian is very suspicious and negative about the idea of Gaviota and Salinas going together at Santa Marta... but Carmenza responds...
Car: Confie en ella!! Si ella lo quisiera cambiar por el Doctor Salinas, ya lo hubiera cambiado hace mucho tiempo ! Pero eso si! Quiere que le de un consejo, joven? No se descuide! Porque ese Doctor Salinas, ese si que es un Caballerazo!!
S: Si! Digamelo a mi! (Now Sebastian orders ANOTHER loaded coffee for Carmenza... boy at this rate she is going to lose her composure soon...)
(Sebastian is getting wasted in alcohol and interrupts Salinas while he is telling the visitors one of his now famous coffee legends/stories. Gaviota excuses herself from the little group, Sebastian follows her...)
S: Carolina!...(in a very obvious sarcastic tone) Me imagino que debes estar muy emocionada! Pensando que a esta hora mañana vas a estar con un coctel en la mano, escuchando las historias famosas del Doctor Salinas, seducida por el sonido del mar... y con el fondo de los musicos que llegan a la playa! Y si tienes suerte... tal vez sean los mismos musicos que estuvieron con nosotros! Ah! Y hasta a lo mejor te dan un descuento por ser buena cliente!
G: Sebastian! Yo voy en plan de trabajo! No de arrogancia!! (getting visibly mad at him)
S: Si, Claro! Mira aqui. (he had picked up a schedule of the tours they had planned at the bar).. Aqui veo que tienen de las 5:00 pm hasta las 7:30 am de la mañana siguiente sin nada que hacer! O sea! Son 14 horas libres!! Recuerdas como son 14 horas en esa playa?? Recuerdas como es el amanecer??
G: Mire, yo ya no le explico mas que yo voy a hacer. Porque yo voy a trabajar como una MULA! Ahora!... Y por si Usted cree que no es el mismo cuadro que me regalo, esta firmado por el mismo pintor! (she says a name with last name Vallejo). Cierto? Que es como familiar suyo! Cierto?

(she comes around him and kisses him on the cheek. (turns around to face Carolina, who is still behind her desk in front of the picture) Oye, sabes que? Viendolo bien, yo creo que el cuadro... (puts a finger on his forehead like thinking, but is sarcastic in his tone) ... se ve ridiculo ahi!... especialmente al lado de un libro de Ferre. Bueno, que tengan un buen viaje! Permiso! (Seb, Francisco and Ivan are ready to leave, but F/I tell Seb that Miguel is there and they don't feel comfortable leaving him on his own there... Seb walks to Miguel and tells him it is time to leave. Miguel says too bad I didn't get to meet the famous Carolina Olivares. Seb says some other day he will introduce them... Gav catches up with Seb alone ...)
G: Sebastian! Usted no va a quitar ese cuadro de mi oficina!
S: No tiene ningun sentido que lo tenga!! El Doctor Salinas le puede obsequiar uno mucho mejor! Para que quiere tenerlo??
G: Pero mira, si yo lo puse alli para demostrarle a Usted que a mi no me da miedo!... de que todo el mundo se entere de que Usted es el unico hombre para mi!... Ahora, muchas gracias por el trato que me esta dando como mujer, oyo?? (Miguel is approaching them again...)
S: Aha! Miguel! Esta es la famosa Carolina Olivares!...
(Seb leaves them alone and Miguel asks Gav not to tell anyone about their earlier meetings. Gav mocks him about the idea of going out together again and this time inviting his wife (Paula) and going for a warm thermal bath the three of them together... lol!! YUCK!!! But she does swear to him she won't tell a soul about their knowing each other...)

(Ivan tries to justify himself to Marcia, Francisco tries to appologize in I's name to Carlos Fontalvo... Carlos tells Avellaneda that he and Marcia were in N.Y. at customs offices, getting some documents or information that he was investigating (does not mention that it was about suspicions of Ivan doing some funny/illegal business there. Carlos returns to Marcia, who is still talking to Ivan. Ivan leaves)
CF: Ahora que vas a hacer? Vas a perdonarlo o que??
Marcia: Eso seria lo ULTIMO que haria en mi vida.
(Carmenza gets a ride from Salinas while Gaviota escorts the visitors to the hotel, Carmenza tells Salinas that it will be Gaviota's birthday in two days. We see Sebastian at the hacienda study, remembering the same thing, it will be Gav's birthday soon...)
(All husbands have a hard time with their drunk wives. Lucia and Paula want to be at hacienda during the tour there by the visitors, so they can prevent Gaviota from entering the hacienda. Gaviota had invited teh Fontalvo's and that was a sweet move to keep Ivan on check.
Sal: Bueno, ahora va a tener a Ivan Vallejo por 4 dias. Y seguro que se la cobra.
(Cecilia intervenes in an argument between Sebastian and Paula the morning after regarding her going to the hacienda to not let Gaviota in. Cecilia orders Paula to stay away from the hacienda until the visit is over and to let Sebastian do whatever it takes to move forward his business. Seb later talks to Marcela... and tells her about how mad he feels that Gaviota and Salinas will be together in SM...)
Marc:Sebastian, cuando a uno lo calcumen los celos, cualquier cosa es sospechosa. Mas bien preocupate porque te va a dejar el vuelo, si?
(same morning at Cecilia's wives ask Paula for pain killers and water. Angela asks for a consome (soup). and they joke about not wanting Coffee!! lol!!)
Cecilia calls Ivan, Ivan enjoys that Cecilia won't let Lucrecia go to the hacienda.
I: Ay, Abuela! Nunca sabes para quien trabajas!
Ivan immediately he calls an old girlfriend to meet her there when he gets to the hacienda vicinity.
(Sebastian calls the hotel reception several times to see when Gav and the whole group get to Santa Marta. She tells him the room numbers assigned to Salinas and Gaviota when he asks specifically for that, and he is not too thrilled that they will be in rooms side by side.)

(Receptionist at the hotel tells Gav and Salinas that a man has been asking about them specifically, they realize who it is (Seb), Gaviota is still there at the reception when Sebastian calls again... Receptionist tells Gaiota it is the same man calling again for her.. Gaviota picks up the phone, this is not noticed by Sebastian at the other end...)
S: ... Pero digame!... La Señora Carolina Olivares... sera que ella fue al bar o subio a su habitacion?
G: Subio!...
S: Subio sola?..
G: No! Con el botones!! Porque?? (LOL!!!)
S: (still not noticing anything strange) No, No! Simple curiosidad!

(At dinner, Salinas and Gaviota speak wonders about the farming area around the hacienda and about the colombian coffee, but Ivan very sarcastically undermines Sebastian's gourmet coffee as a good premium but not gourmet quality... the visitors ask Gaviota about the view at the hacienda area, if it looks like the swiss alps, she says no, to me it looks like heaven. Ivan puts her on the spot and asks her to give details about her time in europe, he ruins the night for her. Ivan even tells them she was there in SM not long ago with his cousin, the manager of CafeExport. She ends up staying alone while everyone goes to the beach to see the sundown at SM. She daydreams about her memories of Santa Marta sitting at the table alone... Salinas is very understanding about her mood and does not insist...)
S: Estan en Santa Marta, Arthur!! Ese es un lugar sagrado para nosotros y esta con EL!!
A: Tu le tiraste el telefono??

ok, i just happened to make two this past weekend...

here it is from memory... I can make those blindfolded.
(melt about a cup of sugar at medium low in saucepan, stirring constantly). Pour immediately into a round cake pan or pie pan... moving it in circles at angles until all the bottom is covered and a little of the sides too (high enough so that you can pass a knife around the edge when it is done to detach the sides of the flan from the sides of the pan so you can flip it).
ok, set the caramelized pan aside to cool off .
mix seven to eight eggs (break them well but don't whip them, you dont want bubbles coming to it... I break them using a hand whisk). Add a teaspoon vanilla extract (the real thing, not fake). Add a can of condensed milk and same can full of water. If you want the flan to be smoother and softer, also add a small can of evaporated milk. At this time, if you are making cheese flan, add pre-softened cream cheese (half of a block or a whole block if you want it more like cheesecake).
Mix all well (again without whipping) and strain using a hand strainer into the caramelized pan...
double-boil in 325-350 degree oven for an hour...
(I create a home-made double-boiler by putting the cake pan inside a glass casserole pan or into a deep 9x11 pan and add water up to or above the level of the flan in the cake pan, so that the small pan almost floats in the water...
chill in fridge at least a few hours and don't flip into a deep platter until it is well chilled.

make sure you take the saucepan off the heat as soon as the sugar is melted. Otherwise it

will burn very quickly and you have to start to melt sugar all over again. You want it golden, but when it has turned very dark brown and smells burned, it is too far gone. that is why you want to stir constantly so if some is about to burn it will release the heat onto unmelted sugar, since stoves don't heat up completely evenly.

It LOOKS so easy..but I"m sure it's not! Tell me..is it also customary to put coconut on top? I thought I tasted a bit of coconut when I was eating my heavenly piece down there..maybe they just sprinkled some on top. I definitely will try it and let you know!

or into the mix, but you don't want to mix them up... either make it straight plain vanilla, pinneapple, coconut, or cheese, but don't mix and match. Always put the vanilla in there but dont mix any of the others together...

it just takes a little time to master the art of melting sugar without water and the double-boiler part... but once you have made a few, you can melt/mix within 45 mins and the rest is waiting another hour.

I never get around to making it. I had always thought it was a bit of an ordeal for such a simple but delicious dessert.The only time I've ever done it I used regular milk. Is it tastier with evaporated milk? I like the classic flan the best, rather than the fruitty-tasting ones. Anyway I'll try and make one on the weekend. Thanks again!

there are flan recipes out there for regular whole milk, evaporated milk & condensed milk.

I think the heavier milk, the tougher the flan will come out... that is why I try not to make it exclusively out of condensed milk, because it comes out thinner, tougher and sweeter (almost too sweet) than the others. I mix evaporated milk into the recipe for condensed milk. IF you want lighter, more soft, like pudding but together, you can try a evaporated milk recipe. I can post that one tonight, it is in the same cooking book I took the condensed milk one from.

when I was there! Well..naturally I didn't do as much as I would have liked to have done..I was only there for a day and a half..just to give you an idea..we stayed at the Marriott on the Condado area...and we took the taxi into old San Juan..how utterly charming it was..had lots of fun getting on and off the trolleycar..what a fantastic idea! Then..in the afternoon..I couldn't resist..took a taxi to the Plaza de las Americas for some shopping..wow..talk about crowded..could hardly MOVE there were so many people..lol! I guess everyone was starting their Christmas shopping or something...where did you live when you were there?

cooking, and is the miracle medicine for anyone with a cold or sinus problems... it does open up your sinuses from the great smell and the steam if you have a really hot bowl of it in front of you... We cooked it for other puertorrican friends at college... and they would point us to their parents as the 'asopao' girls.

actually usually you can see the two condo buildings that are just a few

hundred yards from our house from the airplane as it is turning around to land outbound in the isla verde airport. First you see the 'Coliseo Roberto Clemente' arena, then the 'Hiram Bithorn' baseball stadium and the two buildings are right 12 o'clock from those.

Here you can find several malls that size in a 10 square miles area, but over there there might be five MEGAMALLS in the whole capital area with a population of around two million... so do the math...
