Wow folks. What happened here?
It's been months since I surfed by but things are dead as a doornail here. I'm not trying to scold you, I'm just sayin'. Maybe you should recombine the screeching post with the regular board, stir the pot a little bit, liven it up. Throw in some pron--ok, not that, just joking. But at least do something. Search engine optimization?
Thought I'd post a little tidbit. It's now been over 14 years since I left the org; what struck me recently was a sense of pity for the people I used to know and love, and how tragically their lives are being wasted.
The fact is, if they came to their senses and realized what a dead-end they'd devoted their life to, it would be devastating to them. It was hard enough for me to wake up and realize I'd squandered almost ten years chasing what amounted to a hallucination. It was harder yet to then forgive myself for such an error. And hell: I got off lucky. No real harm to my life careerwise, and no loss of family relationships.
I sometimes think of the two or three people I was closest to as JWs, who for all I know are still in it. If the WT were to implode tomorrow, great, but what then? I wish it would happen but the toll on people I care about would be immense. This site was a great safety net but I wonder how it'll all wash out as 1914 becomes a tiny dot in the past...
I guess my point is that I've come so far from being disillusioned, then angry and resentful, then ashamed, etc and now that era in my life as a dub is just a sort of aberration I don't think about so much anymore. And I wish that there were a gentle way to let the dubs down. Aside from the top few dozen in the know, the rest of the dubs are like you and me.
If I had all the power in the world, I'd liquidate WT holdings, pay a distribution to current JWS, indict/imprison the leadership, and let the rest go, provided the policy of DF/DA was first revoked by the leadership--publically and unequivocably. That's the key. Every congregation would have to read that announcement and immediately reinstate all former members (meh, not that I'd rejoin but social bonds are what's at stake here). I'd want to ensure that shunning ended more than anything else. Secondly, I think access to all past information about the WT would have to be exposed and former members encouraged to consider the disastrous implications of 'new light'. Ending censorship would be essential.
Finally I would never advocate harsher measures against the GB and their Bethel cronies; let them merely rot in prison. Hell, let them be released if they wake up and smell the coffee. I'm sure a few were just thoroughly duped. It took Ray Franz quite a struggle to come to his senses, and thank God for that.
On second thought, I'd likely set some money aside in a legal fund to chase any hardliners who intended to set up shop again, or who recanted on the DF/DA thing. Those folks we can live without. Enough said!
