Dorothy Rolfe from Hamilton

by

I'm Dorothy Rolfe's daughter & looking for her boyfriend who she went with for the last five years of her life. She passed away at age 26. His name is Gary but his last name has been forgotten by relatives who knew him. I'd love to talk to him if he's still alive because he knew my mother so well. He attended family reunions. Any information leading to the whereabouts of this gentleman would be greatly appreciated.

Brickyards in Proton Station and Henfryn

by

I am looking for information on brickyards that were operated by Sam(uel) Wright in Proton Station and Henfryn (dates unknown). Sam (b. 1872) was my great-grandfather and was married to Annie Pollock d/o George Pollock and Sara? (or Margaret) of Egremont Township. Sam and Annie had 5 children: Carl, Elsie, Myrtle, Ila, and Arthur.

Sam and Carl ran a coal company in Markdale for a time (again dates unknown) and eventually Sam moved to Hamilton, Ontario and worked for Canadian Pressed Brick.

Any information that you can provide on any of these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Mervyn's in Sarawak

by

The book The Sarawak Saga says that John Mervyn owned the farm at Lot 28 Con 3 in Sarawak about 1973. I have a photo of the house. They purchased it from people named Hind.
Also I have a group photo with Mrs. Elmer Kirk--it appears to have been taken about 1960 or so from the style of the women's clothes. She appears to be about 35-45 in the photo so I would guess she was born after 1920.
There were Mervyns on the 1901 census in Bentinck-Alexander age 64 wife Maragaret age 57, sons George age 27 and Mark age 17. There are no Mervyns in Sarawak on 1901 census.

Hello,

I am a descendent of the McLeods of the 8th Line in Simcoe County. We were from the Isle of Islay, Scotland and settled around Duntroon in 1862 before taking up land near Glen Huron in 1867. My great grandfather was named Alex McLeod, his parents were Duncan and Margaret. He had brothers named John and Donald and a few others I'm sure.

If they are related to the fellow you're looking for, there's a little cemetery just south of Duntroon, Ontario that goes by the name 'Batteaux Hill'. There are many of the old folk there, and perhaps you might find him buried there. I've been finding so many McLeods from around that part of the province- I didn't even think of looking outside Simcoe County !

Best Regards,
Shane Turner (my mom is a McLeod!)

Burial site Alexander McLeod

by

Hi: You may want to check out the Scottish gravesite in Leith for their graves at the Leith Church. This is pioneer scottish cemetary. My GGG grandparents are buried there (his name William Cambell and her name Mary Flora McLeod), also from Scotland. (came from Islay, Argyleshire, Scotland to Owen Sound in the 1800's.)
PS. Tom Thomson (painter group of seven) buried there also.

HANNAM Family

by

I am looking for the mother, uncle(s) and brother(s)of Richard D. Hannam, born Devon, England, 1929, migrated with family,(no mention of father), to Ontario, Canada, 1839. (Family lore is to Eaton, Ontario). He married Johanna Lynch, from Peterborough County, Ontario. She had come from Ireland with her family. We are looking for her family also, by the way. Richard, Johanna and their five children emigrated to Melrose, Monroe County, Iowa, USA in 1871. We believe he went with one or two of his wife's brothers and their families. His mother, who we believe to be Jane (Haman) Hannam, did not go to Iowa. We believe his brother and his family also stayed in Ontario, Canada. Our best information is that they remained in East Gray County. The families lost touch around 1920. No information since. Perhaps we can share information you may want. Thanks for any effort. John.

He ended up marrying Ada Rowlett d.1918 and they had six children. Ruth May Griffin, John Wesley Griffin, Ada Griffin, William James Griffin, Fred Griffin and Edward Joseph Griffin b. March 1 1923 (my Grandfather).

If you recognize anything in my post or have any information please, feel free to share!

McQuarrie of Osprey/Dand of Feversham/Redpath of Singhampton

by

Marian Dand was from Feversham. John Lachlan McQuarrie was a farmer in Osprey. They had 5 children born in Osprey between 1878 and 1888. Needed is the marriage information for John L and Marian up to 1878. John disappears after Marian's death in April of 1891. Where is she buried? We know about the Dands but have no information about John L. McQuarrie. Stella, the 3rd child (Sarah Estelle) married Richard Redpath of Melancthon and lived in Singhamton. We are trying to find those Redpaths. The father was Thomas Redpath.

Lost with John L. are the two sons, William who would be 20 in 1901 and Charles Arthur (Art) would would be 12 in 1901.

Dands and Redpaths found now need John Lachlan McQuarrie

by Bonnie McQ

John and family appear, misspelled, on the 1881 census for Osprey Twp and also in 1891. The first child is born in 1878. So, where in Osprey Twp did they farm. There are 3 McQuarries in Osprey Twp, Harrey, Hector (postmaster of Badjeros) and John. They are appox. 25 names apart from each other and all in Div 1. What towns were Div 1?

Marian and one son are buried in Burn's Presbyterian in Feversham.

Neelands, Shaw, Dobbin Family Lines

by

The Shaw family Lived in Owen Sound in the 1800's They came from Ireland. David Neelands was my great-grandfather - and Dobbin was the surname of my Grandma and her sisters. I am trying to piece our family together. At one point my Cousin found a town called Dobbinville. Any help would be appreciated. I found I must have relatives from the Neelands, Shaw, and Dobbin side because of the parts that I have been able to gather. Thank you !!!

Shaw/Dobbin

by

Dear Judy,
I saw your query on the Grey County site. My family lived in Owen Sound in the 1800's too (Shaw). John Shaw came from Ireland and married Mary ann Thorn. Their daughter Margaret Shaw married Andrew Dobbin ,and moved to California. Does this sound like your family? I have lots of info on the Shaw's, but not much on the Dobbins snd nothing on Neeley.
I'd love to hear from you

This is wonderful. My grandmother name was Anne Lousie and her sister was Aunt May - and I am trying to remember her last name. May lived and died in Santa Barbara California - leaving many cousins behind who I still write to a few.

I am positive that we are related somehow. I lost my brother in July. Suddenly!! I have no other relatives. It would be nice to know that there are cousions out there - wouldn't it.

let me know what you think. Blessings for 2007
(PS I just found your message - almost on New Years Eve - a gift I am sure

Elizabeth Neelands & John Dobbin

by

I noticed your message and may have a little information for you. Elizabeth Neelands, born about 1845 (or perhaps 1842), daughter of William Neelands and Sarah Neelands of Grey County (they were first cousins)married John Dobbin. According to our family history, they lived in Regina most of their lives and had no children.

There was also a David Neelands (another relative) in Grey County, but I have no record of a marriage from his family, with Dobbins.

I hope this is of some use to you.

Blessings for the New Year -2007

I have very little records - Anne Louise Dobbin married John Reginald Neelands and my father was was John Reginald Neelands Jr. My brother James Edward Neelands died suddenly at 55 this summer leaving me with no family. I have my husband of course - but my origins are gone. I would love to share more notes with individuals over the next year and see if I have anyone that is related to me.

Thanks

John Reginald Neelands

by

Dear Judy Neelands Flores,

I just noticed your note posted about Anne Louise Dobin and John Reginald Neelands. Your other correspondents are on the right track: there were at least three intermarriages between Neelands and Dobbin. John Reginald Neelands (Sr.) was the son of Daniel James Neelands and Mary Ellen Dobbin. Anna Louise Dobbin remarried, to a man named Vincent.

I would be glad to hear from you, to provide more information.
