PARASITE Grants: $226,000 telephone survey

Over the past year I have devoted a great deal of attention to how the Liberal Party of Canada (both in Ottawa and at Queens Park) manages to piss away about $500 million a year on the anti-smoking PARASITES. The Waterloo Record and a later story out of Regina, Saskatchwean give a partial glimpse of how $500 million a year is pissed away.

The Waterloo Record reports how a University of Waterloo professor received a $226,000 grant for a telephone survey to get smokers to quit. Honest.

Three other University of Waterloo professors received $379,222 for unspecified projects in Kitchener. The benevolently named Heart and Stroke foundation gave these grants out of their $1.2 million slush fund.

In case you’re wondering, here is what $600,000 bought: 20% of respondents couldn’t name a stop smoking aid, AND fear based ads don’t work.

$600,000 for these breathtaking insights! Keep in mind the Ontario provincial government is running over a 5 Billion a year deficit, and Ottawa’s National debt is about $500 Billion.
