Occupancy rates at Ottawa's hotels continue to suffer heading into the summer tourism season and the reasons go far deeper than a cool start to the Canadian Tulip Festival.

According to Dick Brown, executive director of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association, April was another weak month for the industry and anecdotal evidence from local hotels suggest May will not fare much better.

The average occupancy rate in April was 56 per cent, down about eight per cent from April 2003, Brown said. Last month was the 13th consecutive month in which occupancy levels were down from the year before.

"We continue to be in what I characterize as a soft market," Brown said, adding the sentiment among general managers of local hotels is that conditions are not likely to improve soon.

Bob Chiarelli killed tourism and small business typical of Ottawa Liberal liars.

No one has the will to visit a city of intimidators and swindlers of taxpayers dollars.

No one will spend any time in a place that has removed private property rights.

The liars Capitol is not on anyones vacation destination.
