TOBACCO NEWS FROM CANADA

June 17 - There is truly a fascinating story that has just come out of Ottawa from the Canadian Press. The story involves how the Liberals were getting very nervous even before the election was called about a potential backlash from Canadian smokers. The sudden pretext supplied for this sudden epiphany was the sponsorship scandal in Quebec. I suspect however, that the Quebec sponsorship scandal was a smokescreen. The real motivation from the Liberal Party was the worry that Canadian smokers would desert the Liberal Party en mass. This is what is happening now.

I have often quoted the National Post:” more people smoke in Canada than vote Liberal in Federal elections.” The polls are all showing at the least a Conservative minority government with momentum on the side of the Conservatives.

Here is a sample Tuesday’s C.P.Story on the suspension of nauseating anti-smoking ads just before the Federal Election:

“Federal ad campaigns were suspended as a result of the Quebec scandal. Ads were part of a $480 million; 5-year tobacco control program announced by then finance minister Paul Martin and former Health Minister Allan Rock.

The plan called for spending $210 million on media advertising, includeing $40 million in the 2004-05 fiscal year.”

Did you get that? The person responsible for pissing away $480 million on nauseating propaganda was none other than Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin himself. By a massive co-incidence the person responsible for suddenly pulling this expensive propaganda on the eve of a tight election is none other than Liberal Party Prime Minister Paul Martin.

As to be expected THE PARASITES, who happen to be the major recipients of Liberal Party largesse-to the tune of about $500 million a year, are all whining and bitching about the loss of these ads. Here is a sample of some comments from the leading PARASITES.

Lets start with Cynthia” The Mallard”Callard, the head Quackette at Physicians For A Smoker Free Canada bemoaning the loss of the anti-smoking propaganda ads:

“That all got iced in the sponsorship scandal when Public Works scooped up and clawed back every last penny that was spent on mass media and put under centralized control.

There has been no anti-tobacco advertising since then and there is none planned and we have no idea whether there’s going to be again.”

Another major PARASITE and recipient of Liberal Party largesse, Rob Cunningham of the Canadian Cancer Society told C.P.:”smoking trends are influenced by many factors, but advertising is an important part of the mix.

“We know that mass media is a very effective way to reduce smoking. There is tremendous support for this tobacco control funding and its being cut back and it shouldn’t be.”

This tremendous support Cunningham alludes to seem to be restricted to major shareholders in Canwest Global (Global TV and Southam Newspapers) and B.C.E.which owns C.T.V.and the Grope and Flail. Lots more Canadians smoke than own major stock in B.C.E or Canwest Global. One of the Asper boys, who control Canwest Global, complained that under the election reform act he couldn’t make his annual six-figure contribution to the Liberal Party. Just another public-spirited citizen.

Gar Mahoodlum, the head PARASITE of the Non-Smokers Rights Association also criticized the Liberals for spending $71 million to bail out some Ontario Tobacco farmers-and try to buy some votes. This $71 million is peanuts compared to the $500 million Gar et al receive EVERY YEAR. Here’s what Gar said:

“Funding tobacco growing while pulling the rug out from under disease prevention is cynical and irresponsible.”

All the PARSITES seem to be getting nervous that the Liberal Party fearing a backlash could cut their $500 million a year to save money. Apparantly The PARASITES are very nervous about not just advertising being on the chopping block.

Health Canada spokeswoman Carole Sandon implied to Canadian Press that happy days could be back for Canada’s PARASITES in the fall-assuming a Liberal Party victory.

Forces Canada has repeatedly endorsed the Conservative Party and urges all Canadian smokers to vote Conservative on June 28th.
