June 4, 2002
My dear forumners,
Traditionally, Lady Arran's birthday on June 2 is celebrated every year at the Bacon Restaurant on the Cap d'Antibes, Antibes side. The Bacon is called such because the region around it has this name from old days. Although the name is misleading since there is no bacon sold here but rather fish and seafood, the name was preserved.
The Bacon is in my opinion the absolute No. 1 fish and seafood restaurant of the entire Côte d'Azur. Also there might be probably no restaurant more expensive than this one for fish and seafood, certainly at the Côte d'Azur, but nowhere else you get this quality and choice. The fishermen of course know that they get a good price from the Bacon and bring their best fish to them, certain to be paid, and well paid. The clients frankly do not give a hoot about the prices since the quality is so outstanding.
Here you can meet film stars and people of the upper 10,000 of the world. Still, you can dress absolutely informal. The two owners never wear a necktie or a Jacket at that.
However, albeit the atmosphere is relaxed, the restaurant is absolutely high class from all points of view: reception, food, service, site, cutlery, parking and voiturier, view, you name it. I have been done in for over 20 years and as long as I am at the Côte d'Azur I shall always patronize this marvel.
Please go to the following sites for more information, menu, vines etc.:

The wine. Very unfortunate that we can only drink one bottle to stay healthy
1st dish: mixed raw fish with some herbs and vegetables
2nd dish: Délices de Loup (seabass inside a kind of Ravioli), very delicious
3rd dish: Fricassé de Rouget with Artichoke chips
Some nice fish, please note the rare Chapon (red in the middle)
Some puff pastry warm
Some petit fours
Nougat glacé with raspberry sauce
A day to remember. If you come to Antibes ever do not miss out.
Very gastronomically yours
