I would welcome any suggestions on any very good value Riesling that you have enjoyed. Being a resident of British Columbia Canada, the local government here puts an apalling level of taxation on wine in general which makes the imports almost prohibitive (sic). Some argue of course that almost all Riesling is good value at every level of quality.
To give you an example a good bottle of Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Auslese will cost here just a cool $200 Cdn. As much as I admire this producer and the Saar Rieslings in general, I can't justify that kind of money. Instead I had to settle for a QbA from the same estate, which was a relative bargain at around $35 Cdn. The Kabinett was listed at $55. I might add getting a good Nahe - such as Hans Crusius - is almost impossible.
Just for the record, Zind-Humbrecht's Rangen de Thann goes for around $50 Cdn for a half bottle. It was magnificent and worth every cent.
Thank you for your interest.
