spent quite a few summers in Forte dei Marmi at the hotel Augustus. Forte dei Marmi is close to Viareggio, well known for shrovetide carnival.
About the food I regularly went to the Maito, the Bistro, the Madeo in Forte and the MonteCattini and Romano in Viareggio.
Outstanding food, starting with an excellent Pizza, then boletus edulis mushrooms, the big ones where you only take the hut, stuff if with fresh garlic and mint leaves, put some olive oil over it and then cook it on charcoal, yummmmy. Of course antipasti, fogacceto and all this crowned by a marvellous bistecca Fiorentina (T-bone steak). Great Italian wines and a double espresso with a double Grappa at the end of the meal, paradise on earth.
It is really a pity that I have not gone to Italy much since the last 17 years, having my house here in France. But I vow to go back soon.
Cheers
