Response to Roasting coffee is more trouble than making espresso..
although I expect that there would be a learning curve for the beginner to get a handle on things (where batches of beans might be thrown out).
I find coffee making generally to be quite messy. Somehow I invariaby ended up with very greasy hands and the prospect of some thorough scrubbing to clean everything up (the oil that coffee excretes being quite difficult to clean off, I found) whenever I brewed espresso. God bless the super automatic.
Actually, I find it difficult to get REALLY dark roasted beans in the UK, so maybe home roasting is the way to go.
