My wife wanted to go back to Le Cirque at least once before they close (and I think reopen further uptown), so thats how we chose Le Cirque. We've been to the one in Las Vegas once, and the one in NYC once. I have heard good things about Daniels, but my wife figured we could try it another time.
The only critism I've head about Daniels, was from my parents. They went there about 2 years ago and said its beautiful place, the portions were good, but that the host wanted to seat them in some lesser side room. The host said they "lost my parents' reservation. Then he proceded to reveiw his book very closely and look around the room at what my parents said was a largely empty room, since it was 6 o'clock. My parents were both very well dressed, had my father had made reservastions approx 6 weeks prior to their trip to NYC. Only after my father said (in front of other people), he made reservations weeks in advance and he had no intention of sitting in a side room, and if they can't find a table for them in the main dining room, they will eat someplace else...did the host "locate their reservation" and put them in the main dining room. Other than that they said it was a really nice restaurant. I was thinking about trying Daniel's on this trip, but I don't think we will have enough time.
I would love to go to Peter Luger's but its too far on this trip. I've head great things about it. I did suggest Del Friscos, but my wife felt there isn't enough selection for her there. She really only eats fish (so I don't go to steak houses very often)...but we are going to one to accomodate some other guests.
I wanted to try Le Perigord, but I think our other guests, prefer American foods, and they mentioned being concerned that a French place might have tiny portions and they would have to eat strategically to feel full. I think they had been to Jean Gorge's once, and said not only was the food mediocre at best, but it the portions were for an infant.
Thanks again for some great choice, I definitely hope to try Daniels and Del Friscos on my next trip to NYC, but I might be able to try Tratoria Del'Arte for lunch while we are there.
