that medium-large sizes are the best if it comes to extract the most out of the beans. The small (one-cup) version are not up to the standard of the larger ones. Seems to be complex interplay of different factors (water vapour pressure, vapour temperature, penetration of the coffee grounds etc), just like constructing a beautifully sounding minute repeater. Also, the grade of grinding is highly important.
