with that soup recipe. At first I thought that oregano was, well, just "oregano" and nothing to do with majoram. Quick squint in my herb reference and indeed it is the 'wild' type
Catalan: orenga, Spanish: orégano, Portuguese: orégão, Italian: origano, Greek: rigani
Origanum vulgare; "Joy of the Mountains"; member of the mint family Lamiaceae; mountain mint, wild majoram.
Nothing to do with Mexican, Cuban, Syrian, Brazilian, Ornamental and Purple varieties of "oregano".
