As sue-happy and as hypochondriac as people in the US are becoming, there is no people on the planet who are more neurotic about stamping out every trace of natural human body scent. Everyone is completely deodorized and if they choose to wear a scent, typically choose something that smells like fruity floor cleaner.
It is funny how many fragrance purists look on the 1980s as the good old days of powerhouse scents. Personally I've reduced my application steadily over the past few years to just a spray or two - I find that fragrances actually smell better when gently applied and there is less collateral damage (knocking people unconcious from across the room), so to speak.
