Understanding and appreciating good food and wine can lend manifold extra dimensions to the otherwise daily routine of eating and drinking,transforming obligation into pleasure, everyday necessity into a celebration of life.

There is no rhyme or reason to such passions, but any effort invested in them is never wasted and whilst often non-essential can serve to add an ineffable richness and pleasure to life.

Wine especially is one of the few beverages that can hold intellectual as well as sensory appeal, and if examined closely, each bottle can embody a miniature study in disciplines diverse as history and agriculture through to psychology.

I extend an enthusiastic welcome to all, whether you be seasoned aficionado or enthusiastic novice, I value any contribution you might offer. All that I request is that participants conduct themselves with good decorum, and bestow courtesy and respect to others at all times.

And remember there's neither reason to fear wine or be high-hatted about it - it is there to be enjoyed. The best bottle you'll ever consume shall be due to the company and not the wine itself.

Bibere humanum est, ergo bibamus.
To drink is human, let us therefore drink.
