- HOCKEY - Carolina Hurricanes centre Brandon Sutter left Saturday's game against the Islanders in New York midway through the third period with an undisclosed injury.
Sutter, a Red Deer native, was on the receiving end of a hard check by Doug Weight in the neutral zone. While reaching for a loose puck, the rookie lowered his body, allowing Weight to deliver a shoulder to Sutter's head that sent the 19-year-old to the ice.
After being attended to by trainers from both teams, Sutter, the son of New Jersey Devils coach Brent Sutter, retreated to the locker-room. He was later hospitalized. Sutter recorded an assist on Chad LaRose's second goal of the game shortly before being injured.
