Blades 3, Broncos 1
The Saskatoon Blades completed a weekend in paradise Sunday.
With a 6-2 win over the Broncos in Swift Current, the Blades finished the weekend 3-for-3. Saskatoon (13-3-0-2) has won five games straight and is atop the Western Hockey League with 28 points.
The Broncos (9-8-0-1) have 19 points.
Jyri Niemi of the Blades opened the scoring early in the first period as his shot from the point deflected in front and beat Broncos goalie Clark Morgan.
It remained 1-0 through two periods. Travis Toomey and Gaelan Patterson scored in the third period for the Blades, who have won 11 of the past 12.
Michael Stickland scored for the Broncos.
Steven Stanford made 25 saves for Saskatoon. Each team had 26 shots.
Saskatoon was 0-for-4 on the power play, while Swift Current was 1-for-7.
Blades 4, Warriors 3
Stefan Elliott scored twice, while Charles Inglis and Walker Wintoneak added singles in a 4-3 win Saturday over the Warriors in Moose Jaw.
The Blades were up 3-0 early in the second period, but Thomas Frazee, Kendall McFaull and Quinton Howden evened the score in the third. Elliot scored the winner with 13 minutes left.
Adam Morrison made 29 saves for Saskatoon.
The Blades were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Warriors 1-for-4.
The Blades are home Tuesday against Moose Jaw (11-6-0-0). The puck drops at 7 p.m.
BLADE BITS: Blades RW Randy McNaught has finished serving his five-game suspension for a hit on Broncos D Jordan Evans . . . The Blades' power play failed to score all weekend, going 0-for-10.
