Vancouver Finishes The Weekend With A Victory
The Vancouver Giants finish the weekend with 4 of a possible 6 points, defeating the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 Sunday night in Kent, Washington. With the win Vancouver moves into 1st place in the B.C. division, 2 points up on Prince George.
The Giants didn't start well, giving up a goal just 12 seconds in, but that lead wouldn't last long. Spencer Bennett scored his 20th of the year 6 minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Seattle though would restore their one goal lead before the period was out to go up 2-1 through 20 minutes.
After killing off a couple of penalites early in the second, Brendan Gallagher potted his 28th of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Vancouver would take their first lead of the game later in the frame on the power play, as Bennett got his 2nd of the game and 21st of the season to give the Giants a 3-2 lead after two periods. Bennett now has 9 goals and 14 points in 9 games since joining the Giants on December 30, 2010.
The top line would go back to work in the third, this time it was Brendan Rowinski getting the goal to put the Giants up 4-2. Seattle though would score just 1:09 later to get back within one. However, that is as close as they would come. Mark Segal made 27 saves to secure a 4-3 victory.
The Giants will go back to work next weekend for another 3 games in 3 nights, beginning Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum when they play host to Prince George. Game time is 7:30pm. The pregame show starts at 7:00pm on AM 650.
