July 6, 2011
Canada will battle Finland on Boxing Day in Edmonton to open up its bid to regain world supremacy at the IIHF world junior hockey championship.
The Canadians, who last won gold at the 2009 event in Ottawa, will battle the Finns at Edmonton's Rexall Place beginning at 12: 30 p.m. PT.
Canada's remaining preliminary schedule, which was announced Tuesday by Hockey Canada, includes games against the Czech Republic (Dec. 28), Denmark (Dec. 29) and the United States (Dec. 31). All four Canadian preliminary games will be held in Edmonton.
The medal-round games will take place in Calgary, with quarter-final matchups on Jan. 2, semifinals on Jan. 3, and the bronze-and gold-medal games slated for Jan. 5.
The 2012 event is the 10th time that Canada has hosted the world junior championship.
