Ice Snap Giants Winning Streak
The Vancouver Giants winning streak came to an end as the Kootenay Ice defeated the Giants 4-1 Sunday night at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants fall to 15-9-0-1 on the season.
Jackson Whistle made his 3rd start of the season in net and faced 9 shots in the opening period. One off the stick of Max Reinhart beat him to give the defending WHL Champions a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes. The Giants managed jsut 5 shots in the first period.
The Giants didn't waste anytime getting the equalizer in the second period as Jordan Martinook snapped home his 11th goal of the season 1:02 into the frame. The Ice would regain their lead on the power play as a bouncing puck found its way on to the stick of Brock Montgomery for an easy tap in to put the visitors up 2-1 through 40 minutes.
Vancouver had a flurry of chances in the first 5 minutes of the third period, outshooting Kootenay 6-0, but they were unable to beat Nathan Lieuwen. Just past the midway point of the period, Sam Reinhart scored the back breaker, beating Whistle to put the Ice up 3-1. They would add one more to make it a 4-1 final. Sam Reinhart finished with 1 goal and 3 assists. Kootenay outshot Vancouver 32-28. The Giants went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Ice were 1-for-1.
The Giants now hit the road for a 6 game road trip through the Eastern division, beginning Friday November 25 in Prince Albert. Puck drop is at 5:00 pm PST. The pregame show begins at 4:30 pm PST on AM 650.
