Giants Finish Road Trip With A 3-2 Victory In Swift Current
The Vancouver Giants finished off their 6 game eastern division road trip with a 3-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos Saturday night at the Credit Union I-Plex. The Giants finished the trip 4-1-1-0, matching the most wins on a eastern division road swing in franchise history (2005-06).
Jordan Martinook continued his hot play, opening up the scoring 6:07 into the first period. It was his 17th goal of the year and 7th in the last 8 games. After the Broncos tied it up, Cain Franson took advantage of a turnover, snapping home his 10th goal of the season to give the Giants a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Vancouver outshot Swift Current 15-3 in the opening frame.
The Giants added to their lead in the second period on the power play; Franson buried his 2nd of the night off a rebound to put the visitors in front 3-1. That is how things would stand through 40 minutes.
Playing 6 games in 9 days, the Giants finally started to show fatigue in the third period. The Broncos pressed hard and cut the lead to 3-2 midway through the period. However, the Giants would hold on the rest of the way to pick up their 19th win of the season. Adam Morrison made 19 saves for his league leading 18th win in net. The power play had its struggles on the night going 1-for-8, but the penalty kill was perfect, killing off all six Swift Current power plays.
The Giants now return home for a 2 game home stand at the Pacific Coliseum, beginning Friday December 9 vs. the Portland Winterhawks. Game time is 7:00 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650. It is Teddy Bear Toss night presented by the BC Honda Dealers so bring a stuffed animal or buy one at the game and when the Giants score their first goal "Let The Fur Fly". The event is in support of the CKNW Orphans' Fund, The Province Empty Stocking Fund, and the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau.
