The Giants congratulate prospect J.T. Barnett (left) on recently leading his team to a Arizona High School State hockey championship. Barnett was the lone American-born player selected by the Giants in the 2007 Western Hockey League bantam draft.
The 15 year-old forward plays for the Notre Dame Prep Saints, based in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 12 regular season games this season, he collected 16 goals and four assists. In three playoff games, he scored six goals and added four assists. The hi-lite of his playoff success came in the championship final, where he netted two goals, including the winner in overtime. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the final.
J.T.'s team will now represent Arizona in the USA Hockey Rocky Mountrain District High School tournament in Dallas, Texas March 28-30. The tournament will feature the high school state champion teams from Texas, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico.
Barnett was the Giants 10th pick in the 2007 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. (214th overall). He will be eligible to play for the Giants in the 2008/09 regular season.
