Final Weekend Of The Regular Season
The Vancouver Giants wrap up the 2010-11 WHL Regular Season with 3 games in 3 nights, beginning with the front end of a home and home series with the Kelowna Rockets Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants enter the weekend sitting in 6th place in the Western Conference, 1 point behind Chilliwack for 5th place; however, Vancouver does have a game in hand. Since the last meeting between Vancouver and Kelowna on February 19th these two rivals have gone in opposite directions. In fact, prior to the that game Vancouver was 2 points ahead of Kelowna for 1st in the B.C. division, now they are 14 points behind the Rockets. Including that game on the 19th vs. the Rockets Vancouver has gone 2-9-0-0 in their last 11 games, picking up just 4 points. Currently the Giants are in the midst of a 7 game losing streak, the franchise's longest losing streak since the 2003-04 season. As for Kelowna, they have gone 10-and-3, earning 20 points, and winning their 3rd B.C. Division Championship in franchise history. Vancouver is 2-4-0-0 vs. Kelowna in 6 meeting this season. Friday is Honda Fan Appreciation Night at the Pacific Coliseum. Over $30,000 prizes will be given away and one lucky fan will drive away in a brand new 2011 Honda Odyssey LX.
These two teams will do it all over again Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna. For the Rockets it will be their final game of the season.
Vancouver will return home to take on the Everett Silvertips Sunday night at the Pacific Coliseum to wrap up their regular season schedule. Game time is 5:00pm. The Giants are 4-1-0-0 against the Silvertips this season, including two shutout victories. The Silvertips currently sit in 7th place in the Western Conference, 4 points behind 6th place Vancouver, 1 point ahead of 8th place Prince George, and 4 points up on 9th place Seattle and Kamloops. The Silvertips have struggled down the stretch, managing just 1 win in their last 8 games. Sunday will be 'Jersey Off Our Backs Night' at the rink on renfrew. The Giants will give away their 10th anniversary jersey's following the game. As well, the Top 10 Giants of the Decade will be unveiled.
