I'm a hobby canoe builder in Belleville, Ont. My most recent source of brass stem banding material (Monaghan's in Peterborough) no longer has it in stock. Anyone know anywhere else nearby that I can get it?

When I was a kid at camp, we used to call them bang-plates.

Hi Ed,
I am in the process of restoring my 16' Trapper and found some on this site: http://www.wooden-canoes.com/material.htm. They seem to have most of what a guy might need. You could also try this one: http://www.islandnet.com/~canoes/materials.htm. They are on the West Coast.
Hope this helps.
Scott
