old canoe in bad need of restoration

My parents still have their old cedar strip canvas canoe but it has been stripped of the canvas and covered in fiberglass. Some of the gunnels have rotted away, it is in pretty bad shape and it is so sad to see it in such poor condition. I am wondering if it would be too costly to restore or if it is even possible. Is there anybody that might want to restore a bit of history.

Hi Ken
One of the nice things about canvas covered canoes is that they can usually be restored to like-new condition. I suggest that you contact the canoe builder nearest you and get him or her to have a look at your canoe. Members of the Guild are listed on the MEMBER DIRECTORY page.

Would enjoy seeing some photos of the canoe. Is that still possible?
