I've managed to aquire the boat pictured but have had little success in idetifying it and getting information on how best to finish it. Can anyone help..... please?

Apologies if the photos haven't shown up. This is my first posting and not sure how to post pictures correctly.
Please let me know if I should do anything to help.

Hi DK,

That is a very interesting canoe and I must say that I have not seen anything like it before. It is hard to make judgements from a picture but I get the strong feeling that your canoe was a home made project. I am also assuming that it was covered with firberglass that either you or someone else removed.
I have a few questions about it if you don't mind answering them. Do you know where, (geographically) it came from? I am curious about how thick the planking is and how it is held on to the longitudinal strips? (I don't see any tacks or fasteners, so it is glued on?) Do you know what kind of wood the strips of outside planking are? The planking does not seem to have any visible grain and could be something like basswood or poplar. From the pictures it looks like the planking is in pretty bad shape - either it has a lot of fiberglass adhered to it, the grain is badly ripped out, it is rotted, or is very warped. Maybe you could give some indication of what state the planking is in. What amount is ok and how much do you think needs replacing do to the problems I mentioned. This information will make it a little easier to decide what to do with this canoe. Thanks.
