I am looking for an adze to facilitate making a dugout canoe. Can anyone tell me about the different types of adzes and where I can purchase them?

Thanks CS

hi,
i lived in ecuador a couple years and actually used some large dugouts. i am talking 30 footers that are difficult to beach with out a large o/b motor.
some liked to use tuna or sardine cans for keel strips to protect from rcoks and such.
the native there would use any real adze they could find. there are some spanish steel makers that make different kinds of heavy duty hoes and adzes. if you havent seen the woodcraft catalog (1-800-225-1153) it would be a good start, also highland hardware (1-800-241-6748) and get some books on wood carving, as they should go into the use. there are several different types and styles of gutter adze which would be suited to get yo started, the bigger the trunk the bigger the adze. hope this helps

Hi CS
I can't tell you about the different types of adzes but a good source of supply is Lee Valley Tools. See www.leevalley.com. Good luck.
