Despite all the TV stuff, I've always thought that Paul Sr. actually liked the classic choppers, but could never build them because of the demands of the clients, as well as the whackyness of Paul Junior's designs, plus the financial bonus of being paid outrageous sums to build outrageous 'bikes'.
That aside, I'm willing to give the man credit where it's due, the Sugar Bear equipped "My Pillow" bike was pretty good, to the point where I would have featured it in the magazine, although the backlash of having an OCC bike may have given me pause. This second bike he came up with, which is supposedly for his own personal bike, isn't quite as cool, it's a Softail for one, and the twisty stuff got out of hand.. and the exhaust slash cuts are silly, but overall... I don't hate it. I got the chance to chat with him briefly, away from the public and cameras and he was pretty laid back, considering all the stuff we've said about him in the past. He said if he could have his way, they'd be making three styles of choppers all the time, but it's not to be. Coincidentally, he was on my plane out of Rapid City and ended up in Minneapolis at a gate close to mine, everywhere he went, he was pretty much besieged by starstruck 'bikers' and 'biker chicks' etc. and was always nice and polite to all.
