Could anyone please provide me with family history information for the family of Joseph de Veer (de Vere) Tyndall (of 'Nursery' Plantation/Estate in Surinam about 1836-1862).
I am tracing the history of the "Blennerhassett" family world-wide and am interested in identifying the wife of "Joseph S. Lewis Blennerhassett" (known as "Lewis Blennerhassett") of Wales, UK.
His wife's name is probably "Tyndall" as she had a nephew "Joseph Tyndall" of Wales who about 1862 appointed his cousin "Joseph de Veer Tyndall" of Nursery Plantation/Estate as his agent in the Colony of Surinam.
I apologise for writing in English, but that is all I know! Any help at all will be much appreciated.
In 1797 Nickerie a district in Surinam was developed by gouvernor Frederici. In 1800 the first group of immigrants planters came with their slaves from Granada. In 1801 the second group of settlers came from British Guyana from the place Berbice.
As you know Berbice was also a former Dutch place.
Joseph De Veer Tyndall was a dutch immigrant in Berbice. He moved to Nickerie and had 3 plantations
"Sealand" ,"Nursery" and L' Esperance.
I Do not Know the exact date but about 1940 Joseph de Veer Tyndall died. His Son James Tyndall and his Wife
continued with the plantation.
if you are interested in the Manumissions of de Veer Tyndall It's about 45. This means the slaves he bought free beacuse the where related to him or because he was the owner he was involved in manumissions of his director or administrator.

I came upon this site by accident and saw your responses to Bill Jehan's query about Joseph De Vere Tyndall. This is my mother's family. Her great grandmother left a plantation in Surinam, probably in the 1850s, with her 4 adult sons and arrived in Sydney, Australia.
I wonder how you know the details you gave Bill and do you have any more information?
The information is written in the old maps of the Museum in Surinam and in the maps I have found from plantation owners in Nickerie in the Museum in Leiden the Netherlands. The official name was De Veer Tijndall
and was a dutch name they where first settled in Berbice British Guyana and they where the first settlers in Nickerie. the name later became shorter
and spelled on the english way like Tyndall.
what other information do you have on this family??
Hereby I try to post the Excel-information I gathered so far.
Please help me to fill the gaps and respond to my emailadress at james@nfg.nl

Hello,
I am very glad that I am not the only one who is looking to find familie of Joseph de Veer Tyndall of Nursery Plantation. I belief he was my grandfather's grandfather. What I have heard is that his family also came from Schotland. They were Christians and the were Pioniers. Some of them went to America, some to Australia and the grandfather of my grandfather lived in Nickerie. He was rich but he didn't have any money left before he died. His last money he gave to the church in Nickerie (Suriname). With that money they built a church-bell. In this churc-bell they have written his name. So until now, you can go to this church and read his name in this church in Nickerie. When he died, I believe that his familie went from Schotland and Holland to find some of his relatiefs and they did find his wife and children. I believe that he came from a very nice familie who loved God and who did good things for the Lord in Nickerie. I myself and my mother and sisters are also christians who trust and worship (Jesus) God. I was very glad to hear that he also was a christian.
That's why I was looking to find more of him and than I find this site. I hope to hear more and find more of this family (also in Schotland/Holland/ America and Australia. God bless. His childrens familie are also Hawker, Camron and Tjon-Kiem-Sem. I would like to know more about him and his family
