As those of you who actually read the news on the website know, I scheduled the Berry 5-Man tourney with Big Daddy's paintball. We will be having it either the 8th or 15th of September. Most of the general details can be found at the tourney page on the website. The URL is www.angelfire.com/extreme2/ViciousVikings/tourny.html if you want to check it out.
Now on to some more specific stuff. Since I and no one I have talked to really understand the usual tournament rules and scoring system we are gonna play by berry college scoring system. We will play either a round robin prelims or have divisional prelims depending on how many teams we have.
If we play round robin prelims we will play that wins are 3 points losses are 0 points and draws are 1 point. Then the four teams with the best scores at the end of that will go on to the semi finals. The team matchups will be chosen at random for these semi finals and the two winners will go on to play in the finals. This format will only really work if we have a low team turnout, so hopefully we won't be playing this way.
If we play divisional prelims it will be a little different. We may make it divisional round robin prelims. We will have separate divisions that will all play round robin style prelims. Therefore all teams will be gauranteed at least a couple of games. We will pick the team matchups semi randomly. What this means is if there is one team that all have really high class markers and equip we will not put them against a group of people that have never played before in the first round. Similarly we do not want to put all of the people with their own equipment in the same division because then the team from the other divisions that are all new people to the sport will get killed in the finals and that would be no fun. We will try to keep the opening rounds as even as possible without interfeering with the randomness.
To let all of you know... The rental equipment will be handed out on a first come first server basis. Also unlike some of the other outings we have had to Big Daddy's field there will be no tabs. You will pay for everything when you receive it.
The costs as they stand right now will be $7 a person to play. Then there will be an additional $10 for rental equipment for the day. To illustrate this a 5-man team that all have their own equipment will only pay $35 for a whole day of play. Alternately if a 5-man team all needs equipment rentals then they will pay $85 for their equipment for the day. NONE OF THESE PRICES INCLUDE THE PAINT YOU WILL BE SHOOTING. All paint will be extra. Right now it is a case of paint of 2000 rounds is $70. We are trying to get that price reduced. Paint is the highest cost in playing paintball, so we are going to try and get that reduced. We are not sure how much we can get that down but we will try our best.
Please post any comments you have to this in this thread and this thread only so we can keep it kind of consolidated. I will also post any new info I get on here and on the tourney page.

Hey Brad thanks for giving the price info you can definatly count me in. It's nice to know what to expect when it comes to money matters. That way I can start saving now. Oh and by the way Congrats on the Sponser you da man!!

I know this sounds a little cheap of me but it is just a suggestion. Maybe the Club could pay for paint you could ration it out or offer enough for one game I don't know it's just that 70 bucks split 5 ways is still an extra 15 bucks and that is assuming that the team only uses 2000 paintballs(I don't know what the average per game use is), but like I said it is just a suggestion and when you are poor like me the equip rentals are gonna be a strech as is.

Right now the only reason the price is still so high is because I haven't really had a chance to sit down and work it out with Big Daddy. I was happy enough that I got the sponsorship and wasn't really thinking about costs at that point other than savings. Starting August 12th I will be up at school so I will have a chance to go and talk with BD more about what we are trying to do. The greatest thing is that even if the prices stay exactly as is I believe that he will give part of the profits (not sure how much but some) to the paintball club which will allow us to get more equip for the team or the field or whatever we do. Anyway whatever happens we will have some fun. Thanks for the interest.
Teams are allowed to be co-ed. There is no rule stating that you have to have females on your team and there is not rule saying you can't have them either so anyone is more than welcome.
Brad
P.S. Thanks to Ian for reminding me about this.

We already have 4-5 teams signed up for the tourney. Also to let all of you out there that were wondering: Yes you can sign up as an individual. Then if we have teams that come up one person short you will have a team to play on, and even if not we can put you with 4 other people and you can be a team. We are trying to be as flexible as possible with this so let me know if you need some leeway we can see what we can workout for you. There is a post up now that will allow you to post your team name and the names of your team members. Please put everyone's first and last names under your team name, or if you are an individual put your full name and your experience level, or whatever you want to put on there that would make you look favorable. So put you or your team up there and we can get a better idea of how we are looking for the tourney.
