Korean War Project Update - December 20, 2006
===============================================

Yes, we are still here, partially......

Both of us received hundreds of emails and phone
calls since the notice
in late October that the Korean War Project would
be winding down operations.

Several dozen folks have been very kind,
forwarding donations for the
operation even though the closing seemed to be
final.

Those donations have helped to defray our
lingering operation costs.

We have been able to maintain a limited online
presence with Hal's
'Return to Heartbreak Ridge' and the 'Letters to
the Lost' section.

All the popular but time consuming areas of the
site such as 'Looking
For', 'Finding the Families', and 'Unit' pages
have been closed.

2. KWVA - Korean War Veterans Association -
Special Update
===============================================

Part of the decision to close the Korean War
Project as mentioned in
our October 28 2006 Newsletter was the incredible
accusation by
Louis T. Dechert, President of the KWVA, that the
Korean War Project
had purloined the Association email listing for
improper usage.

Hal's recent contact with state and federal
regulators confirms that
Mr. Dechert is in no position to pursue
litigation of any kind against
anyone for any reason.

3. Letters to the Lost - Korea, Update - Book in
Progress
===============================================

How We Are Attempting To Finance The KWP In The
Future

On October 23 2006, Hal announced a program to
have our site
visitors participate in a letter writing campaign
to honor those who
perished during the war in Korea, 1950-1953 and
1953-current.

The response from our visitors has been
fantastic. News media around
the world published stories about our 'Letters To
The Lost' project in
several hundred papers after the Associated Press
wrote a story for
Veterans Day.

TV and radio broadcast the 'Letters To The Lost'
project over several
days in November 2006.

We are now publishing all the 'Letters To The
Lost' on the Korean War
Project.

Many of you have asked us about a book to feature
the 'Letters to the
Lost' and Hal's 'Return to Heartbreak Ridge.'

In fact, 'Return To Heartbreak Ridge,' 'Letters
To The Lost', and our
list of names from our KIA/MIA database is now
under construction; a
book of over 500 pages with 60 percent completed.

A successful book could well solve our long-term
financing issues and
allow us to reopen our entire website by Memorial
Day 2007.

Goals and needs:

1.) Our immediate goal is to obtain written
permission to publish in
book form from those persons who submitted
'Letters To The Lost.'
More details on this as progress is made.

2.) Seed money to place in escrow to initially
publish 2000 to 3000
copies of the book. The estimated cost to publish
from $20,000 to
$30,000 to be placed in a special account that
can only be used to
pay publication costs. If the book is not
published, the funds
will be returned intact by July 1, 2007.

The book will feature three sections; 'Return to
Heartbreak Ridge'
with color photos, 'Letters to the Lost,' and the
entire revised
KIA/MIA casualty lists from the Korean War as
seen on the
Korean War Project.

The book will be published in library quality
hardback only,
initially priced at $39.95 plus shipping and
handling. It will be
available on Amazon and/or by direct order from
the
Korean War Project.

We will take no advance orders until the book is
actually ready
to print. Since we have already written or
obtained virtually
all text for the book, it is now a technical
matter of putting
together the book and making it production ready.

A donation of special production software by
Chris Ryland of
Emsoftware.com has been instrumental with the
technical side of
the book project.

3. Seasons Greetings to All
===============================================

We wish to extend our warm Seasons Greetings to
everyone on our
mailing list. Both of us hope that each of you
the very best as the
year winds down.

Hal and I are mindful that many of our readers
are serving in far-flung
areas of the globe where extreme violence is
raging. All of you will be
on our minds as we hope for Peace and a safe
return.
