Editor’s note: I am back home again in Canyon Country. I have received more chapters of Richard’s college years from Kay, but have no news of Richard.
COLLEGE YEARS Part 4
We bag up our dirty clothes and start to walk to Mrs. Smith's house. On the way I fill him in on who Mrs. Smith really is.
"She's the wife of a timber man who is also a missionary in the Philippines. He cuts and harvests the famous Philippine mahogany. They have lived there most of their lives. I’m sure he's well paid.
Anyway their three children turned out to be girls. and those three girls are all attractive young women now.
Mrs. Smith realized she had to get. those girls out of the Philippines fast or end up with a Philippine son in law. So with her church’s help she moved to Redlands.
Don’t ask me why Redlands, i don’t know.
But it was a hell of a good choice. Her daughters are 13, 16 and 19. The 13 year old is a beauty, the 16. year old very pretty and the 19 year old one is a bit chubby.
We won’t see much of the 19 year old. She has already fallen
in love with a sweet guy, but a loser.
They have a modern automatic dual purpose washer-dryer in the back yard. She said "feel free to use it whenever you want.”
We get there in a few minutes really. I introduce Harry to Mrs. Smith and we walk out to the back yard so she can show us how to run the automatic washer-dryer.
We say “Hi” to the three daughters, who later come out to the back yard to chat with us.
“Your Mrs. Smith is one smart woman," says Barry. “These girls are lucky they made it out of the Philippines when they did. I’m surprised the 19 year old wasn’t already in love with some handsome Filipino."
