Losing our Liberty by a multitude of traitors

No score for this post
August 30 2005, 10:17 AM

We are losing our liberty by treasonous thinking, which appears under many subtle titles of courses foisted on our children and the passive masses. We have become so prosperous and weak spiritually, collectively speaking, it's a wonder we have stood as a nation this long.

Look at the rising generation who have been "horn swaggled" into fun and games, love of MTV, plus all kinds of nefarious crap. Why? Because to many have taken the side of self-seeking gratification in all matters. (If it wasn't for the sound and steady good folks we would be down trodden now.)

It boils down to doing it God's way or "my way."
One stands for selfless service with happiness because it is the right thing to do, and the other is "me first" and to hell with the outcome.

Only if we as a nation turn back to the teachings of the Master will we find safety, peace and prosparity. Remember this nation was set up by wise men who loved liberty under the inspiration of the great Creator, whose purpose was to bring the message of salvation to all the world from this country. And it is being done with trementous opposition by the left.

We could do the country, and the necktie and lamppost industries a lotta good...

The neckties are already around the necks of the politicians...the lampposts are there too...simply attach each of those neckties to the horizontal portions of each lamppost!

Ah...but that would take...BALLS!
WTF...

Ladies & Gents

Some weeks ago I sent out a blurb about a new book I'd written which was being published "soon."
Well, it's here. The title is:
"United States Marine Corps Medal of Honor Recipients, subtitled A Comprehensive Registry, Including U.S. Navy Medical Personnel Honored for Serving Marines in Combat."

I have my copies and I am very pleased with the product. It is in hardcover with a great action photo, in color, on the cover. Most persons in the 20th Century have photos, and they are rather large and extremely well-done. The text includes the actual complete citation plus known biographical information about their place and date of birth, place of entry into the Corps, later info including additional awards, or date of death if known. Plus appedices with lots of data and a full index. Nice job and priced fairly at $45.00.
I have copies if you wish, or it is available from the publisher and on the internet, priced with a savings of $1.75.
From me, postage of $3.00 will do.

CINDY SHEEHAN: COMMANDER IN GRIEF

August 17, 2005

To expiate the pain of losing her firstborn son in the Iraq war, Cindy Sheehan decided to cheer herself up by engaging in Stalinist agitprop outside President Bush's Crawford ranch. It's the strangest method of grieving I've seen since Paul Wellstone's funeral. Someone needs to teach these liberals how to mourn.

Call me old-fashioned, but a grief-stricken war mother shouldn't have her own full-time PR flack. After your third profile on "Entertainment Tonight," you're no longer a grieving mom; you're a C-list celebrity trolling for a book deal or a reality show.

We're sorry about Ms. Sheehan's son, but the entire nation was attacked on 9/11. This isn't about her personal loss. America has been under relentless attack from Islamic terrorists for 20 years, culminating in a devastating attack on U.S. soil on 9/11. It's not going to stop unless we fight back, annihilate Muslim fanatics, destroy their bases, eliminate their sponsors and end all their hope. A lot more mothers will be grieving if our military policy is: No one gets hurt!

Fortunately, the Constitution vests authority to make foreign policy with the president of the United States, not with this week's sad story. But liberals think that since they have been able to produce a grieving mother, the commander in chief should step aside and let Cindy Sheehan make foreign policy for the nation. As Maureen Dowd said, it's "inhumane" for Bush not "to understand that the moral authority of parents who bury children killed in Iraq is absolute."

I'm not sure what "moral authority" is supposed to mean in that sentence, but if it has anything to do with Cindy Sheehan dictating America's foreign policy, then no, it is not "absolute." It's not even conditional, provisional, fleeting, theoretical or ephemeral.

The logical, intellectual and ethical shortcomings of such a statement are staggering. If one dead son means no one can win an argument with you, how about two dead sons? What if the person arguing with you is a mother who also lost a son in Iraq and she's pro-war? Do we decide the winner with a coin toss? Or do we see if there's a woman out there who lost two children in Iraq and see what she thinks about the war?

Dowd's "absolute" moral authority column demonstrates, once again, what can happen when liberals start tossing around terms they don't understand like "absolute" and "moral." It seems that the inspiration for Dowd's column was also absolute. On the rocks.

Liberals demand that we listen with rapt attention to Sheehan, but she has nothing new to say about the war. At least nothing we haven't heard from Michael Moore since approximately 11 a.m., Sept. 11, 2001. It's a neocon war; we're fighting for Israel; it's a war for oil; Bush lied, kids died; there is no connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaida. Turn on MSNBC's "Hardball" and you can hear it right now. At this point, Cindy Sheehan is like a touring company of Air America radio: Same old script and it's not even the original cast.

These arguments didn't persuade Hillary Clinton or John McCain to vote against the war. They didn't persuade Democratic primary voters, who unceremoniously dumped anti-war candidate Howard Dean in favor of John Kerry, who voted for the war before he voted against it. They certainly didn't persuade a majority of American voters who re-upped George Bush's tenure as the nation's commander in chief last November.

But now liberals demand that we listen to the same old arguments all over again, not because Sheehan has any new insights, but because she has the ability to repel dissent by citing her grief.

On the bright side, Sheehan shows us what Democrats would say if they thought they were immunized from disagreement. Sheehan has called President Bush "that filth-spewer and warmonger." She says "America has been killing people on this continent since it was started" and "the killing has gone on unabated for over 200 years." She calls the U.S. government a "morally repugnant system" and says, "This country is not worth dying for." I have a feeling every time this gal opens her trap, Michael Moore gets a residuals check.

Evidently, however, there are some things worth killing for. Sheehan recently said she only seemed calm "because if I started hitting something, I wouldn't stop 'til it was dead." It's a wonder Bush won't meet with her.

I recently picked up a couple gear items that belonged to this North China Marines: I got this listing off the North China Marine website....

NEWTON, GEORGE R 1stLT 05786 P/A, WOOSUNG, KIANGWAN, FENGTAI, * HAKODATE-NISHI-ASHIBETSU

His map case was simply stenciled "G R NEWTON" but his uniform carry bag had his service number, rank, and what was probably one of his last duty stations, Marine Barracks Guam. At that time he was a Lt Col.

I'd love to learn more about this Marine so that I could keep that info with these items I found. It's part of their history. Only thing I know so far is he lived in California and passed away back in the 1990's.

Greg

For a great deal of information regarding Colonel Newton get a copy of "The New Breed," Andrew Geer, Battery Press, Inc., 1989, ISBN: 0-89839-139-135-0. There would also be a great deal of information in Volume I through III, respectively, of the official USMC history of U. S. Marine Operations in Korea. These volumes cover from July 1950 through January 1950, and the battles on the Pusan Perimeter, Inchon/Seoul, and the Chosin Reservoir. Colonel Newton commanded the 1st Battalion of the 5th Marines during that time, and I had the pleasure of working with him on several occasions.

Another North China Marine....

April 2 2005, 2:57 PM

Thank you, Sir, for the information.

Also, there is another Marine officer on the POW camp roster

McBRAYER, JAMES D 2ndLT 05927 P/A, WOOSUNG, KIANGWAN, escaped train enroute Fengtai 10 May 45

While I was growing up one of my best friends was the son of a Col. James D McBrayer. Not much was ever said of the wartime experiences other than Col McBrayer spoke of escaping off the train in China and making it back to the States. One day he said he's write a book and several years ago he finally did..."Escape". Last year Colonel McBrayer was notified by the Marine Corps that they were finally going to make good on a old promise to promote him one grade in rank upon his retirement. I'm not sure what this was for and it took about 40 years to finally happen but he's now a Brig General. He's in failing health living in Alabama but his son, John, told me that finally getting that star meant a lot to him.

"Gravestone" Promotions & Advancement in rank for POWs

No score for this post
April 2 2005, 8:50 PM

From what you write, Colonel McBrayer was a POW. It would be interesting to know where he was taken. I had a friend (GySgt Engler) who had been one of the 300 Marines on a special security detail in Peking on December 7, 1941. Since he was on liberty, and deep in one of the hutungs in what we called "Tartar City," when I was in and out of Peking from '45/47, my friend had no idea that the US and Japan were at war. The story he told was hilarious, about Japanese MPs trying to stop his rickshaw while he was returning to the Marine compound. Whatever, when he reached the compound he found himself confronted with many, many Japanese, all with those cute 16" bayonets at the end of the Arisakis. At that point he figured that he had been part of the 10% that didn't get the proverbial word. Knowing a number of Marines, officer and enlisted, who had been Japanese POWs was an education in itself. Both officer and enlisted were promoted to the "virtual ranks" that they would have had if they had been on duty with the Corps rather than in a Japanese POW camp. Possibly the sorriest officer I ever knew, and I'll not name him for obvious reasons, was a gentleman who was the G-2 of the 1stMarDiv in Pendleton in 1950. When it came time for the G-2 to speak after a division exercise in the spring of '50, it was about the saddest exhibition I've ever seen. This gentleman had been taken on Guam in December, 1950, and being a physical specimen, some 6' 4" tall, was called out of formation on a daily basis. Then he was beaten down to unconsciousness by bamboo poles. Beyond a doubt, the cumulative application of bamboo poles to his head had the same effect on his brain as those exhibited by a very punch-drunk fighter. I first met GySgt Engler, who I mentioned above, when he joined 1/5/1stMarDiv at Taku/Tangku China in the summer of ’46. Our commanding general at that time was MGen Samuel L. Howard. He had arrived in China in January, 1946 to relieve MGen Pedro Del Valle. Howard had been the CO of the 4th Marines on Corregidor when his regiment was surrendered by MGen Wainwright. Howard had been held, along with other senior US and Allied officers, in a POW camp in Manchuria. Freed in September, 1945, the MC in its wisdom had him back in Peking 4 months later. Sadly, at least in the former POWs I knew, the experience had taken a great deal of their ability to be Marines again. But there were exceptions, and GySgt Engler, and I assume MGen Howard, were two of them.

Until about 1956, Marine Officers who had been awarded medals for personal bravery in combat were bumped up one rank on retirement. We called these "Gravestone Promotions" for obvious reasons. However, the retirement pay drawn by such officers was that of the rank from which they had been advanced. Semper Fidelis

North China Marine

No score for this post
April 3 2005, 8:15 AM

I've gotten a lot of info from the North China Marine website. And here's a page of that site that mentions Lt McBrayer reporting for duty.
"Arrived Tientsin 20 Jul 40"
http://www.northchinamarines.com/home/id75.html

I always assumed that the belated promotion in rank was due to the fact that he spent the entire war as a POW. The irony of it all was he had to retire in the mid 1960's partly due to physical injuries sustained when he jumped off that POW train in 1945 and partly due to being passed over for Brig Gen. And lack of WW2 combat duty played a part in his being passed over. So the North China Marines paid a stiff price for their ordeal. I was thrilled when I learned he finally got that star...he'd certainly earned it.

Captain Sullivan...

Sir.... I have no idea if this will reach you. You were my Company commander at South Camp Fugi, Japan approximately August 1956.

My recollection is that you were a man of real integrity.... I remember specifically at rifle inspections you would 'ask' me if my BAR was cleaned and move on. It was a subtle mark of respect for my endeavors. I was the regimental winner of BAR competitions to field strip that beast...... I got the time down to 29 seconds blind folded... Hardly comparable to the experiences you had and your wonderful way of writing about them.... I don't know if you were the CO when I pulled out in November of 56 to go to Saudi Arabia... I do know that of all my experiences in the Marine Corps serving under you was what it meant to be a Marine to me. I was an 18 year old kid that was seriously immature and loved the brotherhood of the Corps for the sense of family that I never had. The few brief times I actually talked to you were always full of respect.

How can I ever forget that?

Now reading about your service completes the picture of what you were about.
And I realize you will not have the memory of that as I do.... but I want you to know you embodied the principles of what I like to remember about the Corps.

Thank you very much.
