Hi Phil, could you help a girl in need?

First of all I must thank-you for your menu script which allows my forum owners to use emoticons! It is totally excellent and fits in perfectly with the colours I use on my board! You must be an extremely clever boy!

I have one question though, is there anyway that I can use more than 18 emoticons? When I add the extra lines of code for more emoticons, they don't show on your menu bar?

Any ideas?

I think the term is "want na be geek"

if you've added more emoticons in the section "EMOTICON FILENAMES" just scroll down alittle till you see the the lines with

document.write("<a href='javascript:WhichFace("+'"'+ Face17 +'"'+")'><img src='"+ Realm_name +"/"+ Face17 +"' border=0></a>")
document.write("<a href='javascript:WhichFace("+'"'+ Face18 +'"'+")'><img src='"+ Realm_name +"/"+ Face18 +"' border=0></a></td><td align=left valign=top style='font-size:"+ T_Fontsize +"'>")

Edit the text here that says "Face18" to Face##, being the number of emoticons your have,
then highlight and copy the complete "Face17" line as above and paste it below the "Face17" line each time increasing the face## count untill you reach the number of emoticons you have.

Finally you'll see the lines "face06" and "Face12" have the line break tag <br> near the end, you may need to remove them and paste them evenly where the count (number of emoticons) devided by 3 or the number of rows you'd like to have them on

say you have 24 emoticons and want 3 rows then the lines "Face08" and "Face16" will contain the <br> tag

I may be good at writing scripts but come to intructions

Oh silly me, that did it!! Thank u!!!!!!

A few of my posters cannot see the graphics for some reason (but this is only a minority)..

Does this have anything to do with whether or not they have Javascript enabled?

Ps - this message board is awesome, it puts mine to shame

Another script....

November 23 2001, 3:19 PM

for you to try out:
just paste it underneath the menubar script.
What it does is display a message (see at bottom) in place where the menubar should be if visitors have scripting disabled.
<noscript>
<table width=10% align='center' cellspacing=1 cellpadding=0 border=0 bgcolor=#FFFFFF>
<tr><td align='center' style='color:#FFFFFF;font-size=8pt;font-weight:bold;background-color=#FF0000' nowrap>
&nbsp;If you can see this message then!!!&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;You may want to enable scripting on your browser to have the extra
&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;features/options this forum has to offer&nbsp;</td></tr></table>
</noscript>

But the only other reason I can think of of why the graphics aren't displaying is maybe they have "internet options\show pictures" unchecked or or I don't know

Thought

The posters who can not see the graphics, are they using another browser besides Internet Explorer.

I'm an IE user, so I have no idea weather my scripts will work on any other browser, but I pretty sure the menubar works with netscape

the image problem

November 24 2001, 7:52 AM

it has nothing to do with the script, my images are messing with me, it's happening to other n54 users too, i think it's a realm problem related to the recent down time

Re: the image problem

I have noticed that all over nw54 forums and realms that graphics don't always show and some pages for me won't display and they are all using the old url (no www.), I updated all my url links in my realm and forum that I could and don't have that problem any more, you'll only notice with my forum its with posts prior the date of the url change

BTW, read your msg your board, with the votelet poll, when posting in msg's you do not need to enter the script code, just the votelet url and on posting, the rest will be inserted itself... the script part is only for inserting into web pages you've created, Well thats what I read ages ago anyway and it seems to work for me

damn votelets

November 24 2001, 8:52 AM

Its seems they havn't completely updated everything as it, I just did a votelet posting (deleted it), when posting, it works with the old url but not the new url, the problem seems to be on posting, it dosn't yet reconnise the new url.
But that said update the votelets on your realm page with the new url

Yet again you have come up trumps Phil! Are you a professional web designer?

Well if you keep giving the answers, i'll keep giving the queries lol...

The emoticons still appear on my "preview" page, and when someone clicks on it it says "cannot move focus" or something (this is obviously because there is no editable box on the preview page).. is there any way around that?

BTW what have Network54 said about your script, do they approve of it? I think it's totally excellent!!

Is there no way you could shorten the link for the emoticons.. i.e. peeps could just post :rollin for the rolling image etc etc?

yea that is a problem but I havn't been able to hide the menubar on the preview page as the url is the same as the post page but never say never as I will figure this one out.

I think I have done it... well not quite hide the menubar on the preview page but prevented anything from happening when anything on the menubar is clicked on, all I need now is for nw54 to make a few changes to the preview page, well one in particular anyway to stuff it up and put me back to the drawing board

To view/try it go to my Test Board
