Phil - a query for you....

Not getting any response from the admin board (surprise!) - thought I'd see if you've come across it!

Not sure whether this is a Network54 problem, or what!

The story:

I go to site A - pictures and gifs are fine.
I go to my forum - post some items with smilies (it does seem to be linked to the smilies?)
I go back to site A - pictures and gifs now only placeholders (the dreaded X-box!)

I have to fully reboot to get those pics and gifs to display again. It's as if the posting at Network54 has changed something internal in my IE settings. It's not a new problem - this has been happening for a long time, and occurred with both IE 5.5 and now IE 6.

(Note: It's not the cache - this happens even without step 1 above - going to Site A first!)

I'm using the (semi-standard?) smilie code from your Realm.

Any ideas??

btw - are you closing this board now your Proboards are going - they look good, too!

Richard

I have noticed this for a while to.

One program I use which helps is Cache Manager which clears the Temporary internet files including the cookies and history except the files placed in an exclusion list which includes a few cookies, most of my forums & homepages images and a few other odds and ends.
My files in the exclusion list end up being permanent on my HDD, this also must save on bandwidth, The thing I like about this app is a button is placed on the browser tool bar so while your surfing around just one click is all it takes to empty the cache

I'm going to keep the board open, I'll still pop over here now and again

Cache Manager, heres the site http://wettberg.home.texas.net/cachemanager.htm
The app's geared toward windows NT but never mind, it works for me

Thanks, Phil!

Glad to hear I'm not alone with this one!!

I may give that cache manager a go - obviously that's not the solution in this case, since even deferring the call to Site A until after I've posted "emoticons" at Network54 results in Site A not showing stuff (and that's after a reboot and cache clean) - heck, even some of the preformatted Ads I get in e-mail are not showing images in Outlook Express!

But, if it does help with bandwidth, I'll try it for that reason alone!

I'll carry on hunting for the solution - if I find anything, I'll let you know!!

btw I really like your page of links at http://home.dencity.com/mrpip/ - is it ok if I add that to my forum links?

Take care, and see you soon, Phil.

Richard

Thanks, excellent Idea

BTW I remember when this problem started on nw54 for me, It started when nw54 added www. to there DN. there redirect from the old DN to the www. DN doesn't always work bringing up the red X and 404's but lately only few images havn't been showing now and then and some of the time even images with the www. DN aren't showing. I had mentioned this a couple of times as well as others but sence this doesn't happen or hasn't occurt for steven or chris then it an't a bloody problem

LOL - that figures!

I've spotted an item blaming Firewalls for this problem.

Of course, can I get it to happen in a controlled way to check it out? No chance! Flipping thing hasn't happened once today! Seems to occur just when you don't want it to! Try exactly the same moves to prove it, and - the damn thing works fine!! Frustrating!!!!
