Hi Phil -

I saw your site listed in the help forums and thought I'd drop by. I found this forum listed on your index.

I saw that you're into privacy and security on your massive front page. I used to be in security myself many moons ago involving the then, state-of-the-art home security via the television cable. It was a groundbreaking company...the first of it's kind in the world.

I'm in the process of making a message board site using 10 catagories, 100 boards, and customizing my menubar using the javascript you wrote.

I kind of wondered why N54 hadn't upgraded to full smilies inserted properly besides the message textbox within the program itself...but it's such a good host, I couldn't pass it up.

I'm having problems getting your script to run even though I'm somewhat familiar with simple javascript. The smilies and dictionary scripts by themselves run fine. But, after looking at your custom menubar, I couldn't resist making one myself.

I've been designing layouts for over 20 years and came up with this one:

As you can see, I've spent some time on it. I designed it so there's a center image which I can then switch per board or category.

The trouble is, I'm not able to get your script running...especially with something this complex. It presents a major problem when it comes to implementing this script.

I was wondering if you'd be interested in cut and pasting your script together so it would result in the above image.

I know it's an awful lot to ask as well as challenging. Perhaps I could design a layout for you or link back to your site in return for a running script.

I'm consisdering paying for the premium service here and hope to be around for quite a while. My site will differ greatly from some others here. It's to be ad-free and non-profit. Addressing the 'baby boomer' generation of 88 million alone in the U.S., I quickly expect 5000 members...peaking to 15,000 after 2 years.

Well, it's back to the drawing board literally for me.

I know from looking at your site that you're a busy man. If you could find the time to paste together a challenging script would really be cool...and sincerely appreciated.

If you can't, I understand...but would appreciate you maybe pointing me in the right direction to perhaps someone else who may be interested and capable here at N54.

Nice talking with you and hope to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Zoobie

Hi Zoobie

Yeap sure can, be a nice change for me, its been a while sence I've looked at the menubar script, gees looks a bit hard, did I do that , ok looks a pace of cake to do . Just give me a little time and I'll get it done as soon as.

I think smiles is in the ideas stage and of cause only for premium members and may be in a popup window. I placed my smiles in a popup window because of page loading time, also why load em when I may not use them

Click HERE to bring up the menubar script.

I have added a "catagory image filename" section within the preferences section where you'll type in your board catagory image Url.
Found another mistake, which I can't even believe this script ever worked. LOL

Be seeing you soon with the list of problems
Na it should be working fine

Hey man...Thanks

It's getting there...

Any chance of a few minor tweaks? Heh heh

Is that image centered?

I need the formatting to look like the first menubar I posted with Bold & Url on the top line, Bullet and Italic on the second line, Image and Quote on the third, and Underline and Overview on the forth. Is it possible to have the Overview listed but actually disabled when first posting so it's symmetrical?

I think the smilies have to be further apart horizontally like in the first menubar. Some are animated and it will closer match the reference dictionary when I add more size to the textbox. I know this just involves a few spaces in the code...but I can't seem to find them.

I'm thinking of adding something else into the left-over space...if there is any. Ideas?

It looks really good.

Thanks again

Sincerely,

Zoobie

Check it out now...

Added 2 spaces between the smilies, rearanged the order of the links, and hopefully the text will be bold.

If you intend on adding more, I suggest and would be a lot easyer to work with by adding another cell after the smiley cell and the other before the lookup reference cell but I guess thats not as easy as it sounds

Here's the 'Post' mode:
Dunno about the image centered, smilies spacing, and 'Overview'...

Any way to make that 'Overview' match the other colors even though it's disabled?

Here's the 'Edit' mode:

Just about there except for the obvious...

Thanks

Zoob

If you scroll down, you'll see I've marked where you'll need to add your disabled overview font color, I didn't add the color cause the link color on the gif would no dout be somewhat different

Dood, you rock!

Hey...Thanks man. I found the spaces in case I need more for the smilies.

I also underlined the 'Overview' on post even though it's disabled so it matches the rest.

Thanks again

Can you dig it?

Oh yeahhh...

This rocks.

I spent a little time on it myself...heh heh. I still wonder why the 'Look Up' being valign=top isn't up higher...but whatever.

Guess what? I found another killer board...lol...They're called Best Boards and
it's a tweaked ubb or vbb...but in order to store images with them, you have to pay $4.15 US monthly. They take off the banner ads then...but leave you with 2 pop-ups per 12 hours. $6 gets them all off.

N54's board here needs help if it's been years and still no smilies or posticons (icons in the thread topic itself). I read the archives. There's wayyyy too much competition out there now for someone to actually choose N54 over another. Honest. I've researched them recently. I think N54 is probably the best place...but not the best board by a long shot.

Thanks again man

Zoob

I think its to do with the form object, what bugs me is more ofter then not I end up with an extra (blank) line at the bottom that I can't deal to, in your case it is center.

I've had it with nw54,
My forum at proboards.com will Soon if not already active, for a fee of $5.99 p/month besides getting ad free you get alot more more more more futures than this place, point out to, the free forums have the same futures, nothing taken away.
