I think I have done it... currently only the smilies are coded to work with the wysiwyg editor

Just out of curiousity, how did you get the:
"message: Statement on line 5: Expression did not evaluate to a function object: document.body.createTextRange"
to work in a non IE browser?
I've got a similiar function call that I haven't found an equivalent for in Firefox.
