I know this is a dragon boat forum and may not be the right place to post this question. I need some advice on the C1 stroke technique and training. I am a novice trying to learn how to paddle a C1. Any reference to training videos and articles will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Well let me draw you a diagram... Actually I haven't done C-1, but it wouldn't really matter to much.
I don't think you could describe a Dragon Boat stroke to someone who hasn't tried it. No point of reference.
I presume you joined a Dragon Boat team/club to learn to Dragon Boat so it only makes sense that you join one of the Canoe clubs (or similar associations) to learn C-1 first hand.
My two cents, Cheers

Go to the Burloak Canoe Club site.

This is a copy of a page that used to be on a canoe club website site. Nothing is better than having someone coaching you and discussing the technique with you. But these pics might help a little if you absolutlely can't get to a canoe club somewhere.
I think the theory stuff at the bottom is the same as what Burloak has on their page.

Thank you for the information. Burloak and the C1 pictures. This is going to be of great assistance. I agree with you folks that hands-on coaching is still the best. But when you have no access to coaching, your sharing of information is much appreciated.

Does the c1 person have to switch sides to keep going straight? Like outrigger?

The answer to that question is no. You paddle on one side and the boat rides nice and straight.
The real question is should I be laughing at you for that question or just laugh in general. That one is also no, but you should at least think about the difficulties with switching sides before you ask about it.

I raced for a few years and had to switch side to go straight! Knee stayed where it was...

I have a website where I like to spout off on my personal opinions about C-1 technique.
No you didn't race using both sides to go straight. You went down a race coarse while others were raceing. If you can't steer a c-1 while paddleing on one side you're not in the race.
