Info

Yes all the boats will be Albatross OC-1 boats. Since there are quite a few of these in the local area now it is easier to have enough boats/volunteers to make things fair since everyone will be paddling the same boat. That way speed/time is up to the paddler's ability (once they have had a chance to figure out the steering and feel comfortable moving the boat ) Some will be rigged right, some left so people can pick sides and the boats will be measured and rigged the same so that the boat setup is not a factor. Hope to see lots of people there having fun for a good cause.

OC-1 Regatta

September 20 2004, 7:41 AM

About 60 people (by my estimate) participated on Sunday, doing 250 m sprints in OC-1s and raising money for the juniors. Great weather, a good cause and good organization made for a very successful event.

If anyone has any digital pictures of the event they would like to submit please contact www.torontooutrigger.com so that the pictures can be posted on the website. That would be a great place for participants to view and enjoy them. Thanks

Hope everyone had fun. It was a beautiful and fun day.

Your right all in the same boat, if anyone had anything elese they would have won. Good thing there were lots of people so you could get someone to help carry the heavy thing.

Carry the heavy thing? - Get a life

September 21 2004, 10:50 AM

Last I looked 22 lbs for an OC was considered to be light. Get your facts straight. The Albatross boats are offered in four designs in different layups and weights. Pretty good range if you ask me. It provides the paddler/buyer with plenty of choice to suit their needs.

The goal for the event was to have a fun, casual event and raise money for the Canadian Jr. DB team. Last I checked most other OC manufacturers in TO do not have 12-15 boats available to volunteer for free use at an event.

You gotta love the trolls on the forum - . They even have to post junk about a fun charitable event.

Weak ass anon,
if you cannot lift 45lbs (the heaviest Albatross) on your own it might be time to hit the gym...

Results

The top three finishers as I remember them were:

Women

Jennifer Harris
Rita Brezski(SP?)
Nicloe Devine

Men

John Lau(SP?)
Steve Quan
Dan Gennidakis(SP?)

I think I got the mens winners's name right, but I could be mistaken. I am certain about the women's finishing order and names. The winning times were about 1:11 for the women and 1:02 for men.

I should mention that in each A final there was an "unofficial" participant. These were people who hadn't paddled the qualifier or semi, but ran outside the participants in the final, beating all of them to the finish line. I don't recall the woman's name, but in the mens race it was Mike Devine.

Pictures of the day are posted at:
