haven't seen PDBC yet, but if their usual crew set up comes out, young, light, very fit, they should show very well.

A;so could be Verdun's time to shine.

Possible. I didn't specify the order though, only that those three crews will be the top three crews.

Verdun and wongs will have their full crews which they didn't in pickering. Mayfair will probably be missing a few.

1) wong or verdun
3) mayfair
4) pickering

bytown will be in petite after loosing paddlers to sernior national team.

really? who were they missing

June 7 2005, 3:19 PM

Where was the rest of the Wong crew in Pickering? Looked like they had most of their new and improved team together.

Anytime a patient has underdone an operation to remove a cancerous growth, you have to expect recovery time before getting back to full health. Some of the loss paddlers will be missed, and some of the loss paddlers will not.

S#*t happens.
Every year teams change. Too bad we can't pick our teammates.
It will take a bit time for the new Wongs to mesh but they are still a very strong team and will most likely stay at the top. Okay the cancer thing was a bit harsh whoever wrote that. I'm sure some nice people left the team but they're better off without some of the pompous brats that left too.
Go Wongs Go.

"Who we'all bein' nice too Willis?"

Hmmmm my guess is the bitter ex-wongs that are bashing them right now on this stupid but extremely entertaining forum.

I'm not a Wong nor an ex-Wong but I know them well and they're a great bunch.
Its too bad there may be some resentment between ex-paddlers (who I'm fairly certain all left at their own will and for different reasons).

Whatever! The fact that team are getting better and competition is more intense is good for the sport.
Lets face it with the intensity of the sport these days, anyone who enters this sport and starts near the top deserves a hats off. Quite a few teams this year have new paddlers ...it takes time and practice.
And those experiences paddlers out there know what it is all about.
Sportsmanship !

The Wongs needed a reality check. There's a reason they are a new team this year, but will have to work extra hard to get to where they left off.

Just hope Verdun doesn't have their heads grow!!!

Where's Maplebear's contributions?

They were always insightful and intelligentlywritten. Every top crew should have a Maplebear.

They are both excellent teams.
But whatever. now Verdun gets to deal with the Wongs compost.

As a former Wong, who has better things to do with my time than post idiotic statements on this forum (yes.. I realize the extreme irony of what I'm doing right now..) I am extremely disappointed to see myself and some of my friends referred to as... "cancerous growths". To the insensitive, pretentious and tasteless a##$hole who made that statement, all I can say is: "Thanks for revealing what you REALLY think of us". Aside from the fact that it's terribly insulting, that statement is unfounded, puts the blame on the blameless and conceals the true reasons behind our departure.

I would advise all current and former Wongs to just shut up and paddle with their respective teams and just have fun. When did dragonboating become a life and death situation for some of you? To think that friendships have been affected in the name of a sport that brought us together in the first place, makes me extremely sad... and yes, extremely bitter.
Good luck to all crews this Saturday!

Remember when dragon boating used to be fun? Yes, those were the days.

Po-tay-to, po-tah-to. Let's just call the whole thing off. Whoever you all are, no need for bitterness or to bring up the past. Life is short, so just paddle and be merry.

Or better yet, go to the Montreal Women's party on Saturday and drink and be Mary.

I've been following this thread with relative apathy (with a bit of amusement, I'm sorry) as it doesn't affect me in the least. Here is my 2 cents that I'm tossing in here.

Anonymous 10:44 - You mean to say that you've let something posted by someone posting as Anonymous affect friendships you've had for god knows how long. Unless you've contacted the Rankings Team and have found out the IP address of that particular Anonymous and have traced it to the person you think posted it, I don't see how anything posted by anyone called Anonymous can be taken seriously.

Re: Lachine Knockout

For most people, continuous training at such a high level eventually leads to breaking point. It happens in all sports and not just dragonboating. Look at who the so called "BIG" teams were 5 years ago. Where are those teams now? It is so hard to have 24 or so people operating at such a high level for so long. Sometime you have to take a breath or risk total burn out. Let's face it a team full of typical type "A" competitive people there is bound to be some friction. Combine that with the stress of trying to always stay near the top and eventually the castle will come crumbing down. Sometime it is just unavoidable and is really not anyone's fault. Bravo to the teams that have lasted 5+ years at the top of the sport. You are the minority.

Remember the only reason to paddle is for the enjoyment of it.

Paddler in Lachine this weekend

Just enjoy the sport

June 9 2005, 1:56 PM

I love this board. It is a huge source of entertainment. Never know what infantile remarks will sprout form the mouths of adults.

To all who are coming this weekend from home and abroad, enjoy our city, it's Grand prix weekend, the Eurotrash and their twiggy model girlfriends will be there in full force, have fun, drink, gawk at our ultra hot women (and get laid f you can, sounds like some of you could use some relief), paddle in a really cool, easygoing festival, and chill. After all, this is what Montreal is all about in the summer time.

When it's all said
Verdun
Slayers
Mayfair
and Pickering will be the final 4....
How it turns out is a real guess.
Shallow water and 200 meters basically a start, transition and finish.
The fastest 50 seconds.
