I believe Kevin McCann's Silver Masters are the big team this year and he's trying to stack the boat with 4 more paddlers. |

Parry Sound canoe club has won 3 years in a row . However,
our rivals from town started recruiting our paddlers in March claiming we would not have a team. Serious stuff!
Win at any cost ! Discuss it in the beer tent ! |

We're not trying to stack our team. I thought that I made it clear that the minimum qualification was a pulse rate. We only had 16 paddlers and wanted to share the fun in a full boat.
We expect one thing and one thing only -to have some fun. That's what we're all about. |

No other teams, just the Silvermasters.
It's the first ever one boat festival.

Just got home from Parry Sound. 39 teams, beautiful weather, well run race on the second prettiest course in the east.
1st Sudbury Canoe Club Dragons
2nd Never Never Land
3rd Black Feather Waterwalkers
4th ??????
Only 4 boats per heat/final. No idea of times but they were not blistering, strong headwind etc., etc. etc.

Top three teams 2:22 to 2:25. Slow but into strong head wind and bigger waves than most teams ever see , they were racing on Georgian Bay. Clean water , fair course ,good entertainment through the day on the beach for swimming. Stratford with a fair course and clean water. |

Congrats to Sudbury Canoe Club and Never never land. These teams are top paddlers who would excel at any festival. I would love to see the group from PS (Never never land) get involved in other festivals. They are a sleeper team that with more practise could really pull some big upsets in this sport.
Overall The Silvermasters had to recruit 7 bodies and came in 9th. We had a fun time and would recommend Parry Sound to other teams.
Our only disappointment was that Bobby Orr (who was in town) didn't make it to the site. We kind of thought that he may want to have his picture taken with our team as our paddlers were some of the few (old people)who remember his playing days. |

Your right about Bobby Orr, we were disappointed that he didn't show up. 11 of the SCC Dragons are 50 plus with our oldest being 69 yrs. young. We have 3 other paddlers that are on the cusp of turning 50. Bobby would have fit right in.
Congrats to the Parry Sound organizers and volunteers for putting on a well run event and maintaining that Northern hospitality.
Never Neverland and Black Feather are two good teams that should consider other festivals, they would do well. |

No wonder my Never Never Land team did not win ! We only had one paddler over 50 compaird to Sudburys grey gang.
Twice as old , twice as fast !!! |

finally a thread worth having some fun with! Sheesh... have you seen the crap on the other threads.
The small festivals such as these are the ones that quite often turn out to be the most fun. I remember when Stratford, Waterloo Ottawa (in teh early years) were small fun festivals...now look how popular they are. Perhaps the Parry Sound festival will become another great event!
Woohoo |
