MOFOS pushup competion.

June 27 2005 at 5:17 PM
Curious Spectator

OK
Lets put this on a new post, as this is what really matters.
" Results of the so -called PushUp competition."
(Someone for some reason, someone keeps citing the diff. between A.B and C division on the other thread on MOFOS. Which does not answer what's really important and for that matter no body really gives a Sh#T.)

How many?
I heard one person did 50 with one arm???????

Heat One Result: ??
Finals: ??
What was the prize??

Basically 2 real competitors ... Vic from the Mofos and Shannon from asian focus ... I'm sure each did over 80 pushups but there were no real rules ... shannon ended up winnin by doing a push up ever 2-3 seconds (really slow rate) ... there were no offical count and it was a competition till failure ... not that offical but it was fun to watch

1st prize was some crest whitening strips

The push up competition should be an annual event. Somebody post the full results! Will this be included in the GP Rankings?

The real A Final

(2) ???
(3) ???
(4) ???

Sounds ideal. Just be careful as the smaller fests will rank with a 0.5 rating. This means you'll need to do twice as many pushups.
The thinner air at those locations means its easier to do.

Overall it would be a good thing to do this at all festivelas. Kinda like an NHL skills competition.

Re: MOFOS pushup competion.

June 27 2005, 5:40 PM

Now all we'll need is a new Olympic push-up event, so dragon boat teams can start stacking with these athletes.

This will give people here something else to complain about.

Oh wait, we'll also have to take in account humidity, cross winds, air pollution index and pollen factor on why some teams aren't doing as well as other teams.

And don't forget the fact that if a guy breaks the world DB record of pushups, someone inevitabaly will have to whine about the fact that he did his pushups on a better "Lane" of floor space.

Push ups are my life

Re: MOFOS pushup competion.

June 27 2005, 6:15 PM

OK the guy who won the push competition should be banned from all future pushup festivals. He's not even a real push-up-er! He's a weight lifter for crying out loud. The sport of pushups would be so much better off without the weight lifters walking in and winning our festivals that we need to shell out big dollars for just so they can feel superior. Besides, the push-up-ers are really closing the gap on the weight lifters. It's only a matter of time before a true push-up-er beats a weight lifter. Enjoy your time on top while it lasts, buddy.

The skinny on pushups

June 27 2005, 7:03 PM

So I was there and think that people are exaggerating. Firstly, the guy doing 1-armed pushups was the first to fade - I don't think he did more than 20. After that, everyone else started to slow down. I don't think they did more than another 20 before all the others died out. The winner still had plenty of juice though, cause he did another 5 or so in about 2 seconds after his last competitor stopped. They all started out at different rates, so it's possible that some did more than 40, but I doubt it was much more than that.

Then again, I was half in the bag at the time so I could be way off on the count, but I honestly think that 80 is way too high an estimate.

Enough with the Push-Ups for crips sake

June 27 2005, 7:15 PM

if you keep this up they are going to want to spend half of thier practice time working on their pushups rather than their paddling.

Cheers

Hmm... for our next fundraiser, we'll have to host a pushup contest to settle the score once and for all (for the record, I am just kidding)

Vic actually came second, there were two other contestants who also tried valiantly but were eliminated slightly before him. Good efforts all, especially after some intense racing beforehand

June 28 2005, 12:14 PM

Congrats to all who participated in this fun pushup competition.
For those who were actually there, the guy who supposedly won it, stopped doing pushups, and was pacing himself at the very end. In reality the guy from the mofos and the guy with the mohawk (Riptide LTG) were the only two who were doing real pushups at any consistent basis to begin with. And of these two, mohawk narrowly beat out big mofo guy. Very entertaining for everyone.

Lane bias

June 28 2005, 12:49 PM

Everyone knows that for a real pushup contest all contestants must maintain a consistent pushup rate.

Something like one per second or every two seconds. (IE. One second down, one second up).

It seemed apparent to me that lanes 3 and 4 were erratic at best with lanes 1 and 2 more or less syncing up near the end.

I think we should for a technical commitee consisting of this years contestants in order to ensure next years entry restrictions and rules are fair for everyone.

good sport Shannon gave the teeth whitening prize to everyone. that was a good display of sportsmanship.

Do i hear the formation of a dragon boat olympics? Team against team for points and prizes, and BRAGGING RIGHTS?

One thing about the island that i want to complain about, since i have nothing better to do is that i think they should of had a prize for the pushup competition. Infact they should have had medals for the whole team. What do you whiners say?

Re: MOFOS pushup competion.

June 28 2005, 3:30 PM

The "winner" of this impromptu stage prize event should have been eliminated very early on. A simple review of the tape (thanks for hosting it Mofos) shows the Riptide and Mofos competitors hammering out quality push-ups, while the "winner" continued to pause, watch the competition and sneak under the radar of the judge (shame on you Keith!).

If we had had the tape then, a review by the officials would have reversed the decision immediately.

Very entertaining nonetheless. Well done to the Riptide Mohawk competitor...you were robbed! =)

Actually,

If you looked at the end of the video, when the Riptide fellow (let's call him BA Baracus) stopped, Shannon was still doing pushups, and he cranked out another 5 before the judge said that they were done.

Looked like he still had a ton of juice left.

All hail Shannon, Mr. Pushup TIDBRF 2005!

After observing the footage, Lane 2 washrode his way past the Mohake in Lane 4.

Next time for fairness we need to have a judge for each contestant and judge by pure count. As it will be impossible for everyone to keep a rhythm unless we introduce an element of Synchronized swimming into the event.

Keith "The Judge"

Mofos vs Riptide

June 28 2005, 10:02 PM

Interesting how an idea that came off the top of my head while trying to kill time between awards has turned into an EVENT! Honestly I didn't have time to formulate any official rules, but thinking back I really should have had the crowd count the pace of the push-ups and keep everyone honest.

I've seen the video and I have to agree that the competition truly came down to a Shannon (Mofo) and Jake (Riptide). Both were doing real push-ups. The others should have been eliminated sooner.

Great sportsmanship on Shannon's part. Here's an idea ... I believe that both teams will be in Waterloo in a few weeks. I'll be there myself. Give me a chance to redeem my errored judging. We'll even have one rep from Riptide and another from the Mofos to keep me honest.

I'll see if there is a case of that Ribena stuff left and give it out as a prize in Waterloo.

Thoughts?

Your ashamed Judge/Emcee ... Keith

"I heard that the Shockwave team is partially funded from the proceeds of a charity called Asian Focus. That's lame."

If they were funded, why did they drop the Asian Focus from their team name? This year, they're registered as "Shockwave DBC", not "Asian Focus Shockwave".

Besides, as remember when I was back in university, student groups are strapped for cash enough as it is and would not have the money to be funding other groups.

Re: June 29 2005, 11:33 AM

June 29 2005, 1:47 PM

I know the folks that originally started Shockwave DBC back when it was still Asian FOCUS Shockwave. Fun group of guys. Many were execs from the student group and wanted an outlet during the summer. Funds never came from the organization, in fact it was funded from their own pockets and through fundraisers... just like everyone else. I had lots of fun at their open bar gigs a few years back. However, as the team matured, many people left the team and the affiliation to the association wasn't as strong. Hence the name Shockwave DBC.
In terms of Shannon cheating, he was still pumping them out, you try being in the middle of a muscle sandwich while doing pushups and figure out what the pace was supposed to be. In fact, let's see you go head to head with any of them. Props to all of the contestants.

I am shocked at the limited numbers as well. A stage full of juice monkeys and this is all they could manage? This is not a knock against the winner as maybe he had another 50 or 60 left in him - only he can say. But if he didn't he might be wise to not encourage the head to head competition as the numbers listed are very average to say the least.
