Silver, how much of the results is a matter of boat type vs paddler? Are there inherently faster boats out there?

Boat speed

Absolutely,
The ski's and kayaks will always be the fastest simply because they have a power phase on each rotation vs an OC1 or OC2 with a single blade.
That being said the best paddlers inherently know how to get the most out of whatever boat they're in on any given day.
In the OC1 class though not an exhaustive list I saw, CLion , Albatross, Huki, Hoddy, Surfrigger, Scala, and Wenonah racing on Sat.
Boat design, layup, and water conditions all factor into what craft is the best for any given day.
In a perfect world everyone would have access to the right boat for the day however $'$ and lots of them make this dream just that a dream.
Ultimately it's the paddler's technique and fitness that determines the sucess.

Can someone give a breakdown of how the boats did...
I saw the HUKI win the 0C-1, and come 2nd in OC-2
I think a wenonah won 0c-2 . This would be good info

Larry and Derek came first in an Albatross OC-2 not a Huki.
The OC-1 winner was in a Huki V1-Z, Stan was second in his Wenonah OC-1 with Dragan third in an Albatross
TOCC came in first in a Mirage OC-6

It was not Shogun who won the OC-6 group race.

There were 6 paddlers from Shogun in an OC6 boat and they have the Gold Medals to prove it. Stan Machacek coached (who was not in the boat) the team didn't even have a name. Call it Stan's Team, Shogun but they were not the TOCC club team.

The winning OC-6 crew was comprised of 3 current Hanalei members and 3 former Monks who aren't dragonboating this year.

What a great event. I heard that they will be another early September in the east end on Frenchmans? Is this true? Can someone verify?

Sept. Event?

If there is going to be another OC/Kayak/Surfski event in Sept. the organizers better get a date and the word out soon. September is still a busy Dragon boat month and many of us will also be going to ECORA races (i.e. Kent Island) so it would be nice if we could get as many local competitors here for it if that is the case to support the sport here.
