Anyone in the US with an OC1 or C1 for sale? I can imagine it will cost too much to ship the boat from Canada to the US

Do a search on yahoo groups' outrigger list for used boats. Quite a few oc1s for sale recently.

C1 for sale

* New in 2003
* Includes 60" CF shaft paddle
* DF block

Does not need any work...seen little use..been to Florida once.paddled very little.
However there was a tiney 'chip' taken out of it upon delivery. It was a manufacturing flaw that SRS has agreed to repair over the winter. It doesn't affect the integrity of the boat so I simply epoxied the chip myself. SRS say they will repair it over the winter if I wish. It's not necessary.

do you have a pic of your C-1 that you can post up so I can see its condition? How "flat" must the water be in order for you to be able to use these things? Rather, what's the worst water condition you have ever paddled this thing in?

Sorry I don't have a picture..And I am not able to take one for the next week or so as I am travelling.

It's difficult to describe the water conditions required for these boats. I have seen accomplished paddlers train in some fairly choppy conditions in Florida.
As a novice, I can now paddle this boat in slight 'chop', but not white caps.
You would be best to talk to a c1 coach or Kevin Stott at SRS for C1 traininig info.

The body of water I live on is open..often calm at dawn, but not guranteed.
Sorry I can't be more help.

It is very light and can be car-topped easily if there is protected water close by.

Where would you be paddling?

Used OC-1

August 26 2005, 7:56 AM

If you are still interested in purchasing a used OC-1 I have an albatross for sale also. It is not carbon Kevlar but is fiberglass. As such it is cheaper than the carbon boats but is is a little heavier. The albatross is a good training boat and a terrific all around conditions boat but it is not a terribly competitive boat if you want to race OC-1's and you are not a very strong paddler. I have had the boat past its theorectical hull speed and it will certainly prepare you for dragon boat or many other disciplines better, in my opinion than, a lower volume boat.

I live in Whitby, the toronto area, and our family is growing to the extent that having two of these boats is no longer practical. This boat is one year old, has been paddled about a dozen times, and is in excellent shape and well cared for. I'd love to simply get my money back on it which would be $2300.

If you are in the area and are interested drop me a line.

Good luck with your search for a boat, they are alot of fun. I certainly enjoy my albatross, it is my wife's boat that is for sale.

i tried out someone's albatross this weekend and found the steering quite awkward. is the steering supposed to be just one metal lever sticking out needing you to clamp with both feet to steer? i would have thought there would be something along the lines of foot pedals. are most OC-1's like the albatross in terms of steering?

Tiller Steering

August 29 2005, 3:45 PM

The Albatrosses all use what is known as Tiller steering like that used in sprint kayaks. Once you get used to it and set your feet centered and learn to push with your feet keeping the boat straight is a piece of cake. This boat turns on a dime and requires very little movement of the tiller bar left or right to turn. Most people new to the boat tend to over steer by moving the tiller to far from the center. Over time when you relax your feet and keep the bar centered you will get it. I have seen people do the same thing with peddles as well and oversteer. I have two OC-1s one with a Tiller and one with Peddle steering and steering is just another skill you take time getting used to regardless of the type of steering.

What price are you looking for and what does the price include?

Still interested.

Marathon C1 = sit down, paddle on both sides.
Sprint C1 = kneel, paddle on one side.

If you're wanting to try a marathon C1 most canoe clubs that I've seen don't have 'em. Have to find a marathoner willing to let you try theirs.
For you T.O. folks, if you see a red/white checkered boat ridin around on the top of a white car... that's a marathon C1.

See ya on the water!
