I too can't wait for this weekend, but the bulletin leaves out some info that I think teams would like to have sooner rather than later. Is there any details on the following or timing for them to be released:
For the Premier mixed how does the advencement and points go:
1, IE: with 4 preliminary heats how many teams advance to and how are they seeded into the Semi's?
2, Do top 3 in each heat advance? Top 2 and x fastest times? Do all teams advance?
3, Do USA and CAN teams inter-mix for the semi's? At any point? I wanna race Philly damn it heehee!
4, Do all Premier mixed teams advance to a final? (EX: A, B, C, D)
5, Once you get to the finals how are points awarded?
____a) Do teams that do not make the final get any points?
____b) Do the top CAN/USA "Race Off" teams get points in order of finish regardless of whether they are all in the Final top final, Semi (if all teams don't advance to a final) or mixed across both? (IE. Only one CAN race off team makes the top final so they get the top points for that distance and then the next highest placing CAN Semi (or lesser final) racer - how is that determined)
6, Do the 2000 meter races count for points or are these completly optional for the premier mixed crews?
In case of points ties after the 500 and 200's what is the tie breaking formula / race distance and time?
7, Were the initial lane placements done by draw or was there some attempt at seeding like what went on in Sudbury? (seems suspiciously similar what with the teams you might argue as "top" seeds all getting lane 4 for the 500 on Saturday). Inquiring minds want to know?
If all teams advance to the Semi's and this is just for lane placement then it doesn't matter as much, but otherwise everyone deserves a fair shot at a rough and tumble inner lane for their first heat.
PS. This is not a flaming post, for those who cannot tell the difference. I/we need to know these things... Well maybe not number 7 (might be best if we didn't), but the rest IS important. |

bulletins 1 and 2 also contain valuable info.

Knackered
| Lane assignments | August 24 2005, 11:14 AM |
These look to be fairly "conspiracy free".
For example, Imperial Dragons have Lane 2 for their 500m heat on Saturday and Lane 4 for their 250m heat on Sunday, whereas Mayfair has Lane 4 for the 500m on Saturday and Lane 2 for the 250m heat on Sunday. It looks like there has been a either deliberate jumble of lanes and heat opponents, or pretty successful random assignment. My guess is that the first 500m heats were randomly assigned, and the 250m heats deliberately set to adjust for whatever advantage/disadvantage teams got in the 500's.
In any random or semi-random assignment someone will always end up getting a little bit "lucky". Wong's and Chiro seem to have the best draw with 4/4 and 4/5 lane assignments. But what the hell, had to happen to somebody. I would be very unhappy to hear that teams were pre-seeded. Hope not.
Clearly the U.S. teams have been set in their own heats for race-off purposes, but would likely join the mix for the NACCC semi's and finals. Just my guess.
If I can hazard another guess, it's that times alone will qualify teams for the semi-finals, with the top 12 advancing to the A bracket semis. Then top 3 based on place will advance to the championship final. Either that, or top from each with 2 "wildcard" teams based on the fastest losers. A typical GWN style format, and pretty fair.

| Can't wait! | August 24 2005, 1:01 PM |
It happens like clockwork every year.. The season drags on, my body starts to hurt, the days start to get shorter and the water starts to feel a tad colder. I feel like I've had enough for one season and start dreaming of the vacation I have yet to take this summer.
Then I start reading the predictions and scan through the list of teams competing this coming weekend and the excitement hits me. Bam! The Nor-Ams are here. By the looks of it, this is going to be a hell of a weekend. Welland is always a kick-ass course and lots of serious teams are lining up to give me a run for my money. I'm game..
After all the ranting and bitching that takes place on this forum, on a daily basis, (perpetuated by the likes of me as well), can I just go on record to say that THIS is what it's all about??? RACING!!!
Good luck to all teams competing this weekend! Let the fun begin and let's see how accurate those predictions that were made really end up being..
See you on the start line! |

SCC above IMPS Cascades and Hammers? You know that's not the Chiros right?
Then you have Telus above, Scotia, Chiros, Fish, and Tempest lol?
There will be surprises, but no one here has come close yet. |

Oh my, that is a bold prediction! I'd say Scotia takes that heat but Telus could sneak second IF it's the same Telus as in Montreal but in tight up against the Chiros.
The first heat looks, hmm, Imps, Slayers, Hammerheads?
Probably Hanalei over Piranhas... My mind is racing. This is going to be fun! |

| Race Schedule now posted | August 24 2005, 11:04 PM |
The race schedule has now been posted under the Team Information Docs section.
http://www.dragonboatcanada.org/NACCC/register.html
It includes advancement criteria and lane placement for the semi's & finals.
Also note:
Race Format:
1) Premier mixed crews will progress to the A/B semi-finals based on time, then 1st and 2nd places from each semi plus two fastest times will progress to the final. All other racing classes progress to the final based on time. US and Canadian crews are mixed after the first round.
2) Race-off results will be pulled from the NA results for Canadian crews, USDBF to be determined. Point system and tie-breakers to be announced by DBC.
3) 2000m race order will be seed by 500m times for open, women and mixed races. |

The 2000 not counting that is. Makes no sense that it would count, but now where does it say anything about it being optional for Premier Mixed. |

Welcome MAD, WRCC and Shogun Warriors.
Curious to see WRCC's team. They usually aren't much at regattas, but this is NorAm and I'd be surprised if they didn't throw in a crew that could do some serious damage. Or does Scotia Rouge have everyone already?

It's surprising that we have the 2PP's rule, but almost any long standing club can bring in outside paddlers and bolster their crew significantly. This regatta in some categories is becoming an all-star versus all-star crew regatta. It kinds of defeats the purpose of the Club crew objectives. |

| Who is stacking? | August 25 2005, 11:51 AM |
As long as they meet the following criteria, DBC's rules don't really stop stacking for this year anyway.
1, No more than 2pp's from Shanghai (or else if they were with the team for ever, WHICH ISN"T NEW THIS YEAR)
2, They were on the teams roster when they did whatever qualifying race they did. (this is why qualifying should include at least a race the previous year for some sort of continuity IMHO)
FYI. It has to be Shanghai that counts because some teams have already won sanctions prior to Berlin. If PDBC had 3 paddlers who paddled as PP in Germany this year, but not in Shanghai, you can't exactly take away their sanction now could you... |
|

| Oh | August 25 2005, 11:54 AM |
and you are allowed to change up to 6 paddlers from your qualifying race till your Race-Off roster.
This is there since it was supposed to be a year over year thing, but with both happening the same year, it gets more interesting. |

(c) a Club Crew may add to its roster for the CCWC Qualifying Event up to four new members who did not appear on that Club Crew’s roster for any other DBC-Sanctioned Race during the CCWC Qualifying Year, so long as: (i) none of the four potential additions have appeared on the roster of another Club Crew during the CCWC Qualifying Year, (ii) no existing member appearing on the Club Crew’s roster during the CCWC Qualifying Year is removed, and (iii) the maximum roster size of 30 is not surpassed including the drummer and steersperson |

There are alot of crews with more than 6 roster additions/changes this weekend. You'll see crews who competed in Montreal with almost an entire new engine room. Fair Play is out the window this weekend. |

Nothing suprises me.
However, whether a team can actually stay together after pulling stunt like that will remain to be seen. |

hmmm not every crew can get the same 20 people from their club to paddle at every race...and so in that case everyone's stacking right? using dsp to do your detective work...you need to find better things to do |

| Re: NACCC Race Schedule now posted | August 26 2005, 11:04 AM |
that's why only 6 changes to crews for that reason. What about 1/2 crew from one club and another 1/2 from another for this regatta? Is it still a club crew if it is only for worlds qualification? |

| Re: NACCC Race Schedule now posted | August 26 2005, 11:09 AM |
They only need consistency between their qualifier and this weekend. If this weekend is their qualifier then it doesn't matter.
And it is only 4 paddlers that can change as someone else stated. If you can add 4, without removing any then you are good to go. They ARE checking the qualifying rosters against the Race Off rosters at the very least.
Teams are being told they better match. |
