Piranhas – Beach / Balmy Beach Canoe Club is looking for new members!

The Balmy Beach Canoe Club is looking for new members to join its two dragonboat programs.

The Piranhas – Beach crew is the club’s high performance crew that focuses on developing elite paddlers through a comprehensive and fully-integrated cross-training program utilizing dragon boats, war canoes, sprint canoe and kayak. It is our belief that a successful elite dragonboat crew is best created through the development of individual paddlers and their respective connection to the water. The 2005 season was a testament to this program as a crew of former B – R division paddlers (according to 2004 TIDBRF results) combined with a small group of returning Piranhas to develop a crew that managed to come within milliseconds of several long-standing elite crews at the Atlantic Region Qualifier in Montreal. With only a year of war canoe, sprint canoe and kayak experience, the 2006 edition of this crew still has lots to learn and is excited at its progress. Paddlers interested in this program are expected to make a significant investment of time towards the team’s practices and regattas (both sprint and dragonboat).

The Balmy Beach Developmental Dragon Boat crew is the club’s developmental program that will likely meet one to two times per week and will focus on developing paddlers at a more leisurely pace. This program will also focus on individual development and is expected to compete in several regattas.

Members of either program are expected to become full members of the Balmy Beach Canoe Club. For additional information, please contact Rob Chang at Piranhas@gmail.com

Dragon Boat Interest

Hi Rob:

My name is Mark Varvas and I'm very interested in joining a dragon boat crew this year. I'm looking at trying out for the developmental dragon boat crew at Balmy Beach since I have little experience and am hoping to learn the technique. I canoe and kayak but have never tried the dragon boat...

Please let me know of any upcoming dates or sign-up policies. I am aware that I will have to become a full member of the BBCC and I am willing to do this.

Hope to hear back soon,

Mark
