Those are special rocks, imported from Italy. We had to import them because Canadian rocks just don't hold the waves as well and we got a deal on Italian rocks through my cousin.

Did they dredge? I mean seriously folks that was where they could have really made this course awesome...or is that the next stage? |

Considering they're over the budget already, I seriously doubt there's going to be much dredging going on... |

The Rocks came from Northern Ontario where they are clearing for an expanded highway |

Will there be bumper pads around the perimeter to cushion the impact of boats being rammed to the sides by those nasty, goon teams? |

That's the new course?
Guess WCCC don't really matter (remember the course in Rome ...)
Or maybe you can't tell a course by an aerial picture.
But gosh, it really wasn't all that far to Welland. |

Angles
| The angle of the picture is deceptive | May 1 2006, 12:17 PM |
While the gap is narrower at the top the angle from which the picture was taked increases this effect. If the picture had been taken from directly above or West facing East it would look more even. |

It is a B course. Considering Onatrio Place (where that joke festival is run every Septemer in lousy weather) is C level it is an improvement. May as well enjoy it. |

27 million to go from C to B? Actually I'd say it's from a C to C+ .
When its dredged we can talk B. When it's at least 1000m and dredged with timing tower, docks, held starts, grandstands, you're in A territory.
For A+ you'll need to go the whole 2k for the rowers. |

"where that joke festival is run every Septemer in lousy weather"
Umm the weather has been perfect at GWN for the past 5 years. When was the last time you bothered to go to that "joke" festival Dan? |

I mean maybe at some venue called Onatario Place the weather has been bad, but the festival I went to at Ontario Place was great last year.
Don't get me wrong, it is great the CCWC's are in Toronto this year. It is great some $ has been invested into building a new course. Who knows it could turn out quite well.
However as a taxpayer I am more than a little concerned about how much money was invested in a course that will host ONE world class event, and then thats it. It will not be used for any world class sprint canoeing or rowing championships. Great it will be a bit better then Ontario Place and yes way better then the island, but was the point of investing this much money here.. to satisfy the Toronto area recreational dragon boat community????
This is a lost opportunity to get some real investment in the waterfront for all three sports. |

anyone know what's being done in the adjacent park land? went by today and they seem to be digging a deep trench (much wider than what you'd dig for plumbing or water pipes) on the land near the finish line. |

| new sewer line? | May 6 2006, 7:50 AM |
there are also piles of those large, concrete tube sections. looks like a major sewer line. but for what? a new building?
there's also way more dirt and other stuff piled up there than you would need to finish the race course. my guess is that more construction is coming. |

No they have to divert the existing overflow sewer (ahem).
Don't you love to paddle in that water... |

| Thinga that make you go hmmm | May 8 2006, 11:36 AM |
Well since it is for everflow only then I guess if that ever happened it would be better for us to paddle in it rather than have the whole city walking in it.
And to be honest I can't think if a scenario where the sewers flood and we are paddling at the same time. Think torencial rain or maybe the Leafs in the Stanely Cup Final bathroom break |

| Overflow | May 18 2006, 3:12 PM |
The city built a sewage overflow for the western beaches approximately 2 years ago.
You will notice that there is significantly less raw sewage that in previous years (less floating hershey bars) It will take several years until a lasting change will occur and remember that not all the sewage overflows along the harbourfront have been completed - so unfortunately shit will float to wherever the tides take it. |

| course in practice | May 19 2006, 1:56 PM |
Was out on the new course last night for practice, and I was impressed at how well it kept the water flat. Sure, there was still some wind but there were zero rollers in the course area. The race course wall is a lot higher than the breakwall at other points, so you don't even see any over-the-top spillage. You also don't get any rollers coming in the back door like you get at the Ontario place section.
Too bad it's not longer. |

The spacing between the boulders does a pretty good job in adsorbing the waves energy so you don't get the bounce back effect.
When we were surfing the OC6 in Sun last week there was no bounce back at all on the lake side of the course till we passed it going west. As we approached Sunnyside and the old brake wall came into play again the washing machine effect started up again with the waves going every which way. |

okay you dbers are just a bunch of babies, anything anybody does for this crappy sport you guys rip on them or it for doing it. Holy crap your lucky theyre spending all this money for a crappy "sport" if you even call it that. Shit just be happy for what you recieve, I have never seen anybody from any sport complain so much for things that they are getting FOR FREE! so just shut up and be happy for what you get. |

Did you even read this thread or are you just plain stupid and couldn't figure out why are some of us complaining?
I'll make it simple. Let's say your daddy said he'll get you a doll. However, that doll is a piece of shit, costs daddy's monthly salary and you'll never get another one as all the doll money has been spent on a doll that sucks. Get it now, fucktard?

Also part of the complaining is that OUR course doesn't properly support YOUR sport(s) so stuff it.
Most people who know anything are very happy to have a course. We just wish it could (dispite the economics of it) serve everyone.
This excludes those who are complaining simply because it isn't in Welland or the Eastern Beaches. |
