PDBC/GG beating Shtoorm or Vladivostok? I don't think so. |

Shtoorm won all the Open races in the previous CCWCs in Rome and Cape Town except for a second place finish to the Czechs in Rome. The word is that Shtoorm is basically the Russian national team so it would be hard to not have them as your favorite going in against "club" crews. They of course kicked butt in Berlin if they are one and the same. Vladivostok is good, they were the Russian team in Philly in 2001 but have not beaten Shtoorm. |

| Czech's loves beer | May 8 2006, 3:16 PM |
Czech's would have won it all, they won the 250m race in Rome by open water.
They won and got wasted for the rest of the week(2000m/500m).
I think that was their week off. |

| Jamaica top 10 | May 8 2006, 3:17 PM |
Keep your eyes on Jamaica. I would place them in the top 10.
I understand they are coached by a Canadian.
Don’t under estimate the Caribbean people.
The Jamaican Bobsled made its Olympic debut in1988 at Calgary, Canada. It’s only fitting that their Dragon Boat debut be in Toronto, Canada.
I can see it now, The fans will be singing Sweet Jamaica by Tony Rebel
Sweet Jamaica man a I and I land that
Me no stop love it
And me know the whole massive love it
And them respect it to man, hear this
Help me big up Jamaica
The land of wood and water
The systems might no proper
But we love the vibes the food and the culture
Woi, can't you see
The beauty of this country
Me never know a serious thing
Until me reach a foreign

"Czech's would have won it all, they won the 250m race in Rome by open water."
You can't say this based on the 250m final. It would be easier to say that Shtoorm had a bad race in the 250 but came back to kick ass in the 500m. THAT race wasn't even close either.

Wouldn't it be funny if they also had Canadians paddling for them? |

$3500 ? Holy smokes thats expensive. Who can afford that selling t-shirts? How many do you have to sell at $20 a pop to start making a profit?
Seems the only ones that will make $$$$ are the organizors. |

What and this is a new concept in this sport. Don't worry when corporate sponsership dry's up, which it will, the prices will come down. |

It's a club crew championship, meaning you have to be a member of the club, as per your federation's rules. You don't have to actually a citizen of the country of the team you're representing correct?
Just checking. |

What if it is an obvious sham when a crew has historically raced in one country but finds it possible to represent another to get a backdoor entry into the CCWC? |

Ahhhh Jason,
If G&G did it(met all rules), then the hole world can do whatever the heck they want. |

I'm starting to think it was stupid to think I was going to get a straight answer. What's with all the G&G, Hammerhead talk anyway?
I'm seriously just wondering. Because nowhere in the rules does it say you have to be a citizen of the team's country. |

there must be a jamaica dragon boat club in existence (i believe 6 months) prior to te WWCC. If that is the case and they provide proof that all the crew were part of the club 3 months prior they can get away with it regardless of nationality.
Let the Uraguay and Peru crews begin! |

Where do Sloths (Australia) fit in your list?
They got picked to go on last years Aussie titles results (April 2005) but weren't our fastest club crew at Aussie this year (April 2006)(maybe they weren't training to peak in April?).

I thought this thread was all about bashing the org committee about charging $3500 for a booth...
Maybe the Jamaicans will have a booth selling sweet smelling you know what.
Can't wait!! |

Not sure I get Gatineau gino's ranking.
Philly lost to 2 of Canada's entry at the NACCC. Why do you think they will now rise to the occasion and beat the rest of the world as well. |

I guess Gatineau Gino was referering to the open category and not the mixed category - my mistakes |

| Re: CCWC vendor fees | May 12 2006, 11:34 PM |
Philly was 2nd and 3rd in the Mixed but swept the Open at NACC, the thread was predicting the Open not Mixed. Regardless Russians still top seed with Czechs close behind. |

| Sloths - are they in over their heads? | May 17 2006, 4:01 PM |
Sloths, men aren't as good as Snatch, meaning Shtoorm should win followed closely by Czech Republic and Canada - no room for Aussie medals here, mixed are pretty good but not good enough for a medal in Toronto either, and then the Women, well the womens race should be between Vladivostock and the Montreal Women, third could be open |

| I hate to say it but... | May 18 2006, 1:34 AM |
I think you're right there... As much as I'd love to see the Aussies do well, unfortunately I don't think the Sloths have it in them... From the results I've seen of this years Australian titles they even finished out of the medals for club crews in just our country (4th for the Open 500m)! | |
