A little too manic for my liking. But you have to admire the ability to create hype without a whole tonne of sport-specific substance. I'm glad they're around. They make DB (at least in TO) a bit more exciting. |

Other good soundtracks:
1) LedZeppelin - Traveling Riverside Blues.
2) Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
3) Hole |

Came accross this last month and knew it would end up linked here. I bet the person who posted it to youtube knew it would too. Yes, it's vain and over-the-top and it only contains 20 seconds of paddling compared to about 4 minutes of posing and preening. But what's knew about that? This forum is so easily baited. Besides, I thought we were picking on Riptide this season? |

Riptide needs to start talking some serious trash if they're going to take over from the Mofos. Not that the Mofos ever talked a lot of trash. We hated the Mofos because they were beautiful. Riptide can't compete on that basis. So trash-talking is their only option. Any Riptiders want to get the ball rolling and start dropping some smack? |

The picture quality might not be perfect, but overall that is the best video I have ever seen of a dragon boat festival. It nicely captures the atmosphere, pretty laid back in this case, the feel, and the human as well as paddling elements of a dragon boat race. No stupid music or bad interviews either.
Really well done.
G&G went to Hawaii last year, but I'm curious as to which Canadian team was at this particular festival. |

I started to watch it and through up in my mouth.
You think they could have found some better shots of their paddling - ie less splashing. With all editing they had to do on the first 4 minutes they would have been better off spending their energy filming a good crew and dubbing pictures of their pretty faces on top. You know kinda "Milli Vanilli" like?
Could you imagine the hype if they ever one a race. |

Just so I am clear on this. In order to express one’s dislike for this video you feel one must:
a) join a dragon boat team
b) film you and your team having fun
c) place it on the internet for all to view
d) and lastly be judge?
Are you a moron? They love the attention and with that as you have said comes being judged. I have decided to skip a, b and c and go straight to my favorite d. I have judged and in my opinion it is crap!
We get to judge the Mofo’s on their ability to race every summer and that too is crap.

Since the MOFOS have been consistently just at the bottom edge of "A" or top edge of "B" and just below the really committed die hard teams that puts them in the top 5-10 percentil in quality.
So either your team is better (which I doubt since most people from these teams don't bother with this kind of whinning) or else your just another wannabe crap slinger who is jealous because his/her little team doesn't get the props you think you deserve.
I pick door number two. Like it or not, the MOFOS are pretty good, they do have a ton of fun and they may even be hot. Swallow those sour grapes buddy and move on. |

| Re: incredible dragon boat video | June 21 2006, 11:28 AM |

The one thing you are correct about is their consistently being a B level team. No upword movement to speak of. Maybe they should spend less time on their hair and more time in a boat.

Maybe they don't want to do more. Nobody gives the beginner teams a hard time because they don't make the A division. They're a lot better than most teams and they seem to be having fun. I don't remember any Mofos I've spoken to complaining about wanting to be a better team.
Maybe they have it all figured out. Work hard when they train and have fun along the way. Can you honestly say that being a B team in a region where dragonboating is considered pretty good means you're a bad team?
I don't know them well but they always seem friendly when I've spoken to them.
Let's pick a new team to pick on. |

Hey,
I don't know who the MOFO's are. Never seen 'em...never heard of them other than getting blasted on here.
They do look like they are having fun though, unlike most of the people who post here worrying about rules and water depth.
Its not like this is a job, so why should they sacrifice having fun and being a "good" team for the sake of giving up the good times and getting "serious"?
I'm sure when they hit the water they are all business, so I could never criticize them for trying to have a good time when they can.
I think I would rather paddle for a team that has fun and parties together than a team with their paddles so far up thier ass that they forget that this is a hobby and not a job!
Lighten up!
Run your team the way you want to, and let them do whatever they want!
I'm sure that they can still kick most of the asses that post here, so until you can prove that your way is better...shut up and paddle! |

| Re: incredible dragon boat video | June 23 2006, 4:13 PM |
I wouldn't use the cyclone video as an example if I were you. Don't let their carbon fibre paddles and decent synch fool you. The only things they're doing right is keeping their arms straight and paddles vertical. They're bending at the waist instead of rotating, which is limiting their reach and preventing them from transfering their weight onto the paddles. They're cutting their stroke short and not accelerating through the exit.
Keep in mind this team finished in I division that year at Centre Island. |

Director's Notes - Let the Season Begin
Well, here it is, my first MOFO movie.
MOFO Captain, Matt Carroll, and I have toyed with the idea of producing a movie since December 2002. From the onset, I knew I wanted to head the production and direction effort. However we had one minor setback - we were unable to settle on a fitting vehicle and thus had no focus. On April 5th 2004 the idea of making a MOFO video hit us like a paddle in the water and immediately got the green light. My vision finally had a focus.
I envisioned the movie as a pump-up/montage style music video representing the MOFOs' energy and raw power. To capture the mindset and attitude of our team the video was set against the backdrop of one of my favorite songs: Limp Bizkit's "My Way".
Armed with nothing but an analog video camera, a company laptop (LOL), 30 day trial video editing software from ulead.com and my personal vision of this film, production of this zero budget movie was underway. I began sifting through the hours of footage taken in the past year from our unruly Halloween and Christmas parties. From there I set up a shooting schedule for the various workouts, paddling, introduction, and transition sequences of the movie.
Shooting took about 4 days. I recall having to sneak a video camera into the gym in order to avoid being labelled a horrible pervert. Another memorable day had me jumping on a safety boat capturing beautiful footage of my teammates paddling in the water.
It was then brought to my attention in early May that Senior MOFO, Sara Tong, had made arrangements to have my movie premiered in front of a live audience at the MOFOs' Yuk-Yuks fundraiser on Sunday June 6. Thus, I had a deadline; a looming deadline in front of a comedy club audience that would happily and eagerly crush my movie if it didn't bring them big yuks.
With an unexpected deadline hanging over this project I was constantly editing footage 5 to 6 days a week for a minimum of 5 to 6 hours each day for the entire month of May, right until the very day the movie debuted. I had numerous permutations of shot sequences and would arrange and rearrange them until I was satisfied with the overall product. I was determined to prevent this film from being regarded as a "regular home video" about "boring dragon boat".
Luckily, being that I was filming the MOFOs, I had a plethora of workout sequences to help me experiment with cinematography. Via editing and careful timing, the maximum amount of humour was extracted from the already hilarious party sequences. Of course, the real pay off for me was the final paddling sequence. I put forth a great deal of effort in order to transform this simple home video footage into the epic tale of the MOFOs and their Dragon Boat.
After two months of hard work the night of June 6th 2004 had arrived. As the Yuk-Yuks' emcee announced to the crowd that there was a small time dragon boat video to be played, I felt as though I was in University once again awaiting a dreaded final exam for which I was fatally under prepared.
Silence.
Finally, the sound of Limp Bizkit ripped through the silence.
A number of audience members began leaving just as the movie started. I began to worry that my movie would only be appreciated by the MOFOs and our friends - those who "had" to appreciate it. Then I heard people laughing. Laughing at the bits that were intentionally funny, laughing with me. Those who were leaving turned to give the video a second glance, and they joined in the laughter. I looked around to see everybody at Yuk-Yuks enjoying what I had brought to the screen, whether they were teammates, friends, or strangers. It was surreal. As the movie finished and the credits rolled, something amazing happened; my hard work was respected, and received a powerful round of applause.
This movie has been an incredible learning experience. I've had tons of fun, and given up countless hours of sleep, but it was more than worth it. I'm proud and enthusiastic about my first film. I want to thank the team, my baby Lisa for her limitless support, and those who had confidence that I would be able to best represent the MOFOs; both on and off the water.
Until my next movie....
Cheers!

Apparently you harbor some deep resentment to “Old school DB teams in Toronto”. Perhaps as a child you had been abused by a crew of old sweaty paddlers?
In the mean time we have sent your very clever code to Robert Langdon to see if he can decipher it. “I got 2 words for u ...... s...k it”. Hum puzzling.

I'm not a mofo, former mofo nor a mofo fan/supporter. I've raced against them, beaten them and have been beaten by them. (not necessarily in that order)
However I do agree with the Anonymous that said "Maybe they don't want to do more. Nobody gives the beginner teams a hard time because they don't make the A division. They're a lot better than most teams and they seem to be having fun.". One of the reasons they're on people's radars is due to the flexing on stage.
Perhaps the Mofos are perfectly happy and having fun where they are. Once you stop having fun with your team is when the team chemistry starts to break down. From their website, their community service and parties, they seem to be a group that's still having fun. The more serious a team becomes, the more paddlers float through the revolving door during and after the season.
