| TIDBRF - done.
Ottawa - check.
Sudbury - finito.
Montreal - au revoir!
So what's left? GWN! The big end-of-season show down. Can't wait.
But what gives with the location of this race?
From the website:
"Event Location
The GWN Challenge takes place on Toronto's beautiful waterfront.
Stay tuned for a detailed site map and directions to the event."
Toronto's beautiful waterfront? Not Ontario Place?
It's only 6 weeks away. Do you think you could tell us where the race is being held? |

Anybody know who is going to the Canadian nationals in Welland? I've heard there may be a team or two from the west coming. |

Can't paddle around those huge dragons and pagodas and Budda's. Where will they hold it? Not outer harbour. Not Centre Island. So, where is a nice new race course in Toronto that is just wanting to be used?

I would love to see them make use of the new race course. It can't be more unfair than Ontario Place and it's still down town. |

Gotta be tough to run on the new course after GWN tried so hard to stop it from being built! |

There was a thread about this back in April and nobody from GWN stepped in to provide any clarification.
If the "solution" is to run the event from the north shore (that strip of shadeless concrete/grass between lakeshore and the course) they deserve to catch a whole heap of shit for not warning teams before they signed up and paid.
If Ontario Place really isn't available the new course is the only reasonable alternative. GWN needs to put aside petty political rivalry and think about the best interests of its paying customers. |

See who is coming to the end of season show: Mayfair, Imps, Chiros, Hanalei, Hammerheads, Fish, at least 1 strong Montreal team.
Making A final is going to be a bitch, hell making A division is going to be tough.
See you on the water, happy paddling! |

So SeaPea works for GWN and still not able to provide an answer where it'll be? |

GWN will be held on the new course. They got approval back in early June. Not sure why they don't want to tell particpants yet, everyone else seems to know.

If I had to wager a guess, I would say the usual Montreal teams will be going: Telus, Asian Dragons, Wongs Immortals, Verdun Express and maybe a women's team. |

Are you sure that they already got approval to race on the new course? |

I have lots of great memories from Ontario Place, but if this move to the new course is for real I think it's a great decision and I doubt they'll go back.
Here's why:
1. Whatever the new course's faults, it must be better than Ontario Place (especially if they keep it to 5 lanes).
2. Lots of greenspace, trees and shade.
3. Reasonable sightlines as long as they don't set up vendors along the side of the course.
4. A more cetralized setup. Ontario Place is a maze and gives the event a fractured feel. What about the possibility of one big beer tent? How much better would Sunday's awards be if we could actually hang in a licensed area and watch, instead of in that strange kiddy playground?
5. Bigger crowds because non-wristband people won't have to pay admission to access the park.
6. Not limited to Ontario Place vendors. Possibility for that big beer tent, or even something better to eat than Pizza Pizza?
7. Virtually the same CNE parking set up as usual. Just a short distance further west to walk.
So to summarize ...puhleeeese do this!!!

I can see your points, they are valid.
I will miss the Ontario Place venue though. |
